Last week, Volkswagen put out a few teaser images of the GTI Clubsport. Due to be debuted at one of the world’s biggest and most important GTI/VW meets at Worthersee. The GTI Clubsport is rumoured to be the fastest, most hardcore production GTI yet. The Clubsport celebrates 40 years of the Golf.
It’s hard to believe that 40 years later, that Golf following is bigger than ever. The GTI is instantly at the forefront of everyone’s mind when the term hot-hatch is uttered.
According to Motor Trend, the Clubsport will be powered by a reworked 2L turbo-four. Undoubtedly, it will be based on the current 230-hp 2L unit found in the GTI. The Clubsport is good for 260 hp and 291 hp with an overboost function when that extra punch is needed.
The teaser image shows a new bodykit and sportier front bumper with a large intercooler opening. The mirror housing are a high-gloss black. The black pinstripe along the bottom of the doors are a throwback to the original Golf GTI and they certainly add a nice touch of style and heritage tot he Clubsport. The rear bumper is also resdesigned and shows off an integrated diffuser with dual chrome tail pipes.
No word on performance numbers yet but it’s rumoured to hit 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h or 155 mph.
We’re definitely looking forward to more details later this week.
