Roswell, New Mexico – Hundreds of Volkswagen New Beetles are expected in Roswell, New Mexico this weekend for the 7th annual 2K Car Show Weekend. Roswell is famous for an alleged crash of a UFO in 1947.

This year, Volkswagen of America will bring in a number of New Beetles, including the Teacher’s New Beetle, produced for the National Educators Association, whose surface acts as a dry erase board that can be written on and erased for the next lesson. The company will also showcase its new Rabbit and Eos hardtop convertible.

The Roswell 2K event features a “Skywatch” on Friday night, and a car show and New Beetle parade down Roswell’s historic Main Street on Saturday, with Speed Channel’s “Car Crazy” host Barry Meguiar serving as parade Grand Marshal. On Sunday, New Beetle owners will drive to Carlsbad Caverns and a drive-in movie.

Last year’s event drew more than 250 New Beetles and thousands of attendees; this year, caravans are expected from across the continent, including a group driving in from Toronto, Ontario. The idea for the Roswell show grew out of a 1999 television commercial which stated the New Beetle was “reverse-engineered by UFOs”. For more information, visit www.roswell2k.org.
