Ottawa, ON. – Transport Canada has released its latest recalls, which may affect some BMW, Chevrolet, Cooper Tire and Mercedes models.

BMW

Units Affected – 184

X5 – 2012, 2013;  X6 – 2013

On certain vehicles, the steering gear was manufactured incorrectly and, as a result, a steering fluid leak could develop. Loss of power steering fluid could cause a loss of steering power assist, which may result in a crash. Also, power steering fluid leakage may contact a hot engine or exhaust component, which could cause a fire. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering gear assembly.

Chevrolet

Units Affected – 8,185

Cruze – 2011, 2012

On certain vehicles, welds may have been omitted from the fuel tank mounting brackets during the vehicle manufacturing process. This could allow fuel leakage to occur as a result of a severe side impact crash. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, secure the fuel tank brackets using fasteners.

Chevrolet

Units Affected – 61,299

Cruze – 2011, 2012

On certain vehicles, oil spilt as a result of improper engine oil change procedures could contact hot engine or exhaust components, as well as the engine shield, which could cause the shield to ignite and burn. In addition, on vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, continuing to drive with a completely worn clutch may cause hydraulic fluid to be expelled from the clutch housing vent hole. In some instances, the fluid could be burning as it exits the vent hole. If the burning fluid contacts the engine shield, this too could cause the shield to ignite and burn. These issues could cause an engine compartment fire which could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will modify the engine shield to prevent fluid from contacting the shield.

Cooper Tires

Units Affected – 133

Cooper DISCOVERER H/T LT235/85R16 – 2011;  Cooper DISCOVERER H/T P265/70R17 – 2012

Certain tire may have been manufactured using a contaminated rubber mixture. As a result, sections of the tread may detach during use. This could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace affected tires.

Mercedes-Benz

Units Affected 184

E-Class – 2007, 2008, 2009

On certain E-Class Wagons, the load levelling rear suspension could malfunction. This could trigger a continuous attempt to increase the pressure in the air bellows, which can lead to uncomfortable and stiff suspension characteristics. Ultimately, this could cause a loss of air pressure in the bellows, which could result in poor vehicle handling characteristics, increasing the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the level control system connecting rod with an updated version.
