It doesn’t really come as a surprise to us but we’ve just received official word that the six-passenger, people moving, minivan-esque Mazda5 is being discontinued for the U.S. market in 2016.
The news wasn’t announced with any fanfare or fuss, but simply as a one-line summary as part of an announcement recapping the brand’s other changes for 2016. “There are no plans at this time to bring a replacement Mazda5 to the US market beyond the 2015 model year.”
Last year, the U.S. market sold less than 20,000 units, while we sold more than 3,000 units up here in Canada. Proportionally, while those numbers aren’t amazing for the Canadian market, sales are significantly better for us up here.
Good news for us, as out of any of the six-seater capable vehicles, I really do enjoy driving the Mazda5 the most. No changes to features or pricing, and we can still buy it in manual up here!
