Roadster will share underpinnings with future Fiat roadster model

It’s official: the next-generation Mazda MX-5, due to go on sale for the 2016 model year, will debut on September 3rd at multiple global events.

This means the MX-5 will be appearing earlier than expected. It was widely believed Mazda would wait until the 2015 Chicago Auto Show to show the next iteration of the roadster, where the first generation MX-5 debuted just over 25 years ago.

The 2016 Mazda MX-5 will use the full suite of Skyactiv technologies and lose weight in comparison to the current generation car.
