The flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class keeps on growing with more models – the latest of which is the 2017 S-Class Cabriolet. Looking at the teaser preview image of the droptop S-Class, we can see the new model is unmistakably an S-Class, just without its roof.

This new model will be the sixth S-Class variant and it will most likely be AWD by way of the 4Matic system and seeing as it’s a two-door coupe, expect it to be available with the same powertrains as the current S-Class coupes – the S550 4.7L V8 twin-turbo, the AMG S63 5.5L V8 twin-turbo, and eventually, the AMG 6L V8 twin-turbo from the S65 coupe.

Instead of a hard metal top, the roofless S-Class is expected to ship with a powered (of course) multi-layer fabric top, presumably with a glass window. The S-Class slots in above the E-Class convertible and will take over as the Mercedes-Benz flagship convertible – it will be the first “first luxury four seater cabriolet since 1971.”

It’ll be interesting to see if the new S-Class convertible will be able to compete with the upcoming Rolls Royce Dawn or if it will battle with the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible – it’ll certainly have the brawn under the hood to put up a fight. Expect to see the S-Class convertible be revealed at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.
