Hummer to partner with Tread Lightly!

Detroit, Michigan – On September 6th, the national nonprofit organization Tread Lightly! and General Motors’ Hummer division will announce a new partnership aimed at promoting socially responsible four-wheeling and educating the public about the responsible use of outdoor recreation areas.

The announcement will kickoff a daylong trail cleanup event in Drummond Island, Michigan, hosted by the International Hummer Owners Group. Community volunteers, Hummer owners and GM employees will participate in various trail restoration activities, including preserving trail landmarks and picking up debris.

In the United States, an estimated 40 percent of all federal recreational facilities are rated below minimum standards. The backlog of needed maintenance and repairs for all federal recreation sites is described as being in the multi-billions of dollars. Hummer and Tread Lightly! are teaming up to help relieve the increasing pressures on these lands and to educate the public about the responsible use of off-highway vehicles.
