Meet the Toro, Fiat’s first crack at the pickup truck market, which the company teased earlier this week via the shadowy image above.

But in case you think the idea of a Fiat pickup is a load of bull, consider the photos below (which we found at this Brazilian website) of the Toro rolling along the assembly line at Pernambuco, Brazil.

Reports vary as to the Toro’s underpinnings: some outlets are saying it will be based on the Jeep Renegade’s running gear, but others say it’s the result of a deal between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Mitsubishi, and that it’s closer to a clone of Mitsu’s Triton. While we’re not convinced of the Mitsu connection, the Renegade rumour is a stretch, too, literally: the Toro looks way too long to be based on the tiny Renegade/Fiat 500X platform.

In any event, its origins are a moot point as far as North America is concerned, as the Toro’s availability is to be limited to Latin American markets–hence FCA’s decision to build it in busy Brazil. The chances of it showing up in Canadian and American showrooms (as a mid-size Ram model, at least) is slim.
