Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll rumoured to be in discussions with Sauber

A number of rumours were fired about the Italian Grand Prix paddock in Monza this weekend. One of those rumours has the distinct flavour of maple.

Billionaire fashion mogul Lawrence Stroll may be in a position to purchase the Sauber Formula 1 team for 2015.

The owner of Mont Tremblant racing circuit in Quebec and an avid Ferrari collector, Stroll could snap up the struggling Swiss team and further cement his personal relationship with Ferrari. Stroll’s son, Lance, is also a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and races in the Italian Formula 4 championship.

Stroll made his fortune through the clothing industry with brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger.

Currently, the biggest Canadian influence in Formula 1 is Mecachrome, also based in Quebec, a preparer of customer engines for cars supplied by Renault Sport.
