The ES is REALLY soft in comparison to the GS based on back-to-back drives I took when I was shopping.  The ES excels at spacious comfort.  If those are the priorities, you can't go wrong.  If you like a bit of sport in your ride, though, fuhgeddaboutit.

"Nearly Flawless"......Except for that gawd-awful, gaping maw of a front end. KDS2K's era GS looks 100x better.

To be fair, 2013 ES looked similar to the 2013 GS.

I haven't driven the car much since the first weekend, but been getting rave reviews from my wife, so that's a relief!  I actually jacked it up last night, shored it up with the jack stands, and had a look beneath, just because!   ;D   I like that the the unsprung suspension parts are all aluminum and really beefy looking.  What i also noticed is that there are plastic covers all over the place, which i suspect are for airflow purposes.  It's kind of uncanny how quiet the car is at speed and i read somewhere that it has the same cd as a first gen Prius, which is pretty darn good for a big sedan!  It's nice to able to use a sun roof again at highway speeds.  I think our Fusion was louder with the sunroof open at anything past 60km/h than in the S2000 with the top down.

I hope to get some more time behind the wheel this weekend as we have a short road trip planned.

i always liked one of the partner's previous cars at my work...a GS (300?), around 2007ish model...flawless and still looked new when he replaced it (not sure what he did with it).

looked like this:

yea, i'm not sure which one it was (300, 430 or 460?)...i just know it was a GS and in MINT shape...it still looked new when he got his new LR...honestly, i didn't pay too much attention to it (in terms of exact model designation) as i was really impressed with it when i was inside it...i just assumed there was only one GS...never really paid much attention to Lexus' as they're out of my snack bracket (well, new anyway).

The paint is amazing on this car!  I detaied it last weekend and it took much less effort to buff out than any car i've ever done.  Such a deep luster when completed as well.  Never thought white paint could have so much depth to it until now. I doubt that it was ever properly detailed but very little crud came off when I clay barred.

Yea, they are certainly well put together and lots of thought spent on little details.

Lexus does a very nice white.  The white on the current RX is among the nicest I have ever seen.  Since owning a white car again for the first time in decades, I've really started to notice the variations in shade in the offerings from other manufacturers, and how for so many the white paint is flat, lifeless and boring.  Even from some high end manufacturers -cough - Mercedes - cough.

MB/Audi/BMW white are flat whites so they can charge more for their 'special' metallic and pearl paint.
Lexus' white is pearl white so it looks different depending to different angles and lighting.

Yes.  These are the little things you begin to notice and appreciate when owning a very finely crafted car.  You don't really "get" the whole Lexus thing until you own one IMO.

Even in my LS, I occasionally still find these interesting attention to detail things.

ok, i talked my colleague today (one of the owners)...it is a 2006 GS430...he still has it...he gave it to his son, so it's still in the family.   ;D

he basically said he just can't get rid of it...i told him i didn't blame him, it is such a nice car.

The first gen GS (née Toyota Aristo) was the one designed by Giugiaro.

The first gen GS (née Toyota Aristo) was the one designed by Giugiaro.

In 1990 Ital Design (Giugiaro's studio) developed a concept for Jaguar called the Kensington.  Jag never adopted the design language, and the concept was put aside.  When Daewoo and Toyota/Lexus came looking for designs for, respectively, the Leganza and GS/Aristo, Guigiaro drew on elements from the Kensington to design both cars.
