Thanks for all the comments, everyone.  I was offline yesterday.  That pic of the HR-V vs CX-3 is a very helpful visual, too!  Thanks, DKaz.

Again, it's always just me in the car.  I care more about my own comfort and driving experience than anything else.

^  The CX-3 has one huge plus going for it... no CVT.
I think it and the HR V are within spitting distance for hp,  i'd bet the Mazda would be much better to drive.

My SIL bought the HR-V a few months ago.  Had a drive in it a while ago... the CVT had the same sluggish delayed response that drives me nuts in the Crosstrek.  It does have the trick Fit interior though.

The HR-V has an even bigger plus for it currently, 6 speed manual. And even when the CX-3 gets theirs, the HR-V will be loaded with so many more features plus there's the much more functional interior. The CX-3 gets the nod with interior quality, style, and driving experience although Hondas are not too far behind.

Frau, I love driving the CX-3. If you get it in GT trim, the headlights are superb!!

... But it becomes difficult to live with in terms of no arm rest and thick A-pillars.

If it's just you, there is plenty of space in there so long as you're not looking to store tall items that you can't lay down, or large cubes.

Fuel economy in the city is spectacular - mid 8's usually.

Highway isn't great - usually low 8's. If you do a ton of Highway, is something to consider - as is the oil change interval.

The CX-5 manages better Highway fuel economy FWIW I'm real life.

Did someone f*ck with this thing, or am I losing my mind?

WTH?
I thought the hood vents were bad.  Then I got to the interior.
Somebody shopped a bit too much at Cdn Tire.

Thankfully the interior crap looks like vinyl overlay and the fake vents can be taken off, but some of the trim has either been painted or plastidipped, and hopefully the tails were overlayed and not painted.

Overall, I'd avoid this one.

There is some potential that those colour accents were dealer installed. They had a similar pack when I bought my 2. It was all body coloured so I could I add green to the interior. I passed but came across another green 2 with it installed. I perhaps would enjoyed the result when I was six years old. Perhaps.

That makes sense, because I must admit that it doesn't look like it was done by amateurs when you look at the closeup shots.

But, holy crap... unless it can be removed, that dealer is going to take a hit on resale.

Edit:  Even the valve stem caps on the tires are red!   :rofl2:

For the dealer kit - it was coloured accent pieces that replaced the stock ones or clipped on. Unless they had the stock bits it would be hard to live with that or as you say resell it. I'd hold out for a non-messed with example - they aren't ultra rare.

One more plus for the Honda Fit/HR-V... lounge mode! My Odyssey can do this and my old 1985 Honda Civic wagon had the same thing.

I wonder if that would work for hauling lumber like the fold forward mode on a Vibe/Matrix.

Small hatchback? I found one for you. How about this unfinished turbo, rwd, V8 MINI?

Combines the reliability of a German MINI with a home brewed chassis and turbo'd old school Chevy V8! Awesome!  :rofl2:

I've already made up my mind, and it's not an EV.  Putting 400+ kms in a day for a hike, with no charging options at the trailhead, is a non-starter for me.  Literally.  I've already got enough anxiety right now about long trips - range anxiety is not something I wish to add.
