Yea, it's a pretty inoffensive line up with some interesting models.

I REALLY hope this car does well also.

Yea, me too...especially since it seems sedans are on the endangered list...

AND it has a hatch!  It's a freakin' unicorn!  If we're not all cheering for this car, what the hell is wrong with us?  It's a 365hp turbo car with RWD (or AWD) and a hatch!!

yep I like the concept, just needs a manual  :P

Much better than most of the crap out there, I will admit.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

The hatch is why I'd buy one.  I hope there's a decent entry-level luxury/performance hatch or wagon on the market when I replace the C30 (most likely in 4-5 years).
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

as the Stinger is RWD bias then you will see that when they release the 2.0L version in Canada possibly in the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Shoot me for saying this now but as someone who is actively looking at the Stinger, if it was RWD or manual-only it wouldn't even be on my radar.

No RWD because of the winters here in Montreal.  I've lived with RWD here and never, ever again on a daily driver.  On a fun weekend summer car?  Sure.

No manual because of so many reasons.  I still don't understand the obsession with manuals on car forums.  Its a transmission from a bygone era and automatics in this segment are (for the most part) VERY good.  If I was buying an older used summer sports car, it would be manual all the way.  But a GT car for daily driving?  Heck no.  Never.

I do agree that autos are very good these days, and even on GT cars they can be appropriate - relaxing long distance tourers that can occasionally shake their tail, all good.

but sports cars? Manual. No discussion. Makes excuses for a DCT or auto if you want, but manual is the optimal transmission for engagement - which is the point of a sports car.

Now is the Stinger a sports car or a GT? I would lean more toward the latter for sure, so yeah, auto could work. I personally would love a manual one, but that is just me.

Also, outside of NA, manuals are still alive and well that I can see. Here in Oz there are still a lot of manuals out there.

For mainstream cars, sure. But when it comes to sports cars it is actually North American demand that is keeping manuals alive. When the previous gen S4 was facelifted they only kept the manual in NA. The last two generations of M5/M6 offered a manual only because NA demanded it. The take rate for the new GT3 manual is 50% in NA.

Dec 20 - http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2017/12/autoguide-com-2018-car-of-the-year-award-watch-to-find-out-which-car-wins.html

the 2018 Stinger got top honours.

Dec 20 - didn't make Car and Drivers 10 Best

Can always count on you to find something negative to say on this subject.  If there's a positive review about the car, you will be sure to dig up a negative review.

Oh look, its totally NOT on the 10 Best list!!!  Really dude?
Was the Stinger even on the market and available for sale  when the CD 10 Best list was published? If so for how long, like 5 minutes? Had they even fully reviewed a production version of the car yet?

Can you think of many pretty damned sweet cars that aren't on the CD 10 Best list? I can. I'm not really sure what your point is here.  ???

They needed to leave room for their perennial Honda inclusion.

^ If I recall, their main gripe (if you can call it a gripe) was who this car is aimed at / what is it trying to be... a lux cruiser or a sport sedan..
otherwise I think they were pretty impressed with it

Yeah it was pretty positive overall.

I checked and couldn't find a list of contenders for 10 Best, but it appears that they jointly test all qualifying vehicles for a period of weeks - then begin a long process of whittling down to finalists and then the top 10.  The 10 Best list was published in November - so I'm not sure if the Stinger was there and available that far in advance to be included.

Anyway, Vman was gushing over the S5 as a far superior choice to the Stinger, and it likewise didn't make the 10 Best list, so I guess that means it sucks, too?  :rofl2:

The pool is only 5 cars, but I assume those are what was left after filtering out others. They didn't say what their criteria was for picking those five out of all those new 2018s out there.
It looks like they liked the 4 banger with RWD.  I'd be interested when it comes to replace one of my cars in a few years.
