I don't know what happened to the price of washer fluid, but most gas stations around here charge $5-7 for ONE jug.  Costco is $11 for four.  So I buy at Costco and the stuff works great year-round.

Gas stations are convenience stores.  Costco is not.  $1.50 for a chocolate bar at a gas station.  Can get a box at Costco, works out to about 1/2 the price.

even at superstore "winter fluid" is 4.99 a jug.  at gas station, it's up to 6.99 a jug.
normal washer fluid (like mine rated to -36) is 2.99 a jug.  or 1.99 on sale.
i never used "summer" washer fluid.

costco isn't any cheaper.

I've never bought the summer crap simply because I'm afraid of the consequences of forgetting in the tank. Oh, and draining washer tanks isn't exactly easy.

Sometimes when we buy vehicles in Vancouver they come with the reservoir filled to the top with clear water or very weak washer fluid. After a winter trip across the Rockies on a transport there are cracked reservoirs, damaged hoses, etc.
My moms Legacy came from Vancouver,  it had straight water. The dealer had to remove the tank and replace the pump as it shattered.
Mazda3 I bought in North Carolina had summer washer fluid, and I didn't realise this until I drove to Montréal in winter of 2014 and it froze. Nothing broke, but it was annoying to have to dilute it with the Canadian -45° fluid and then wait....wait.....before I could use it.

Slightly different topic: I don't know how people drive safely on all-season tires in the winter time. Rental car in Detroit of course has all-seasons, and a light dusting of snow is enough for some interesting handling dynamics. I haven't driven a car with all-seasons in the winter since 2006, so this was an eye-opener.

So for the people that use all-seasons in the winter on their own cars: shame on you !  >:(

I see in Ont you can still buy 'summer' washer fluid....can't imagine why.

Same in MB, I don't understand why you would bother with the summer washer fluid here.

Probably for the bug guts that cover your windshield.

I find the summer fluid does a better job on bug guts.

Is it worth the hassle of draining your tank in the fall so it doesn't freeze and crack? The winter fluid does the job of removing bug guts well enough for me :drv2:

I've never had to drain the tank.  I had it get slushy once, so I added gasline anti-freeze.

This is quite nitpicking, but legibility matters......

So, it looks like Michigan wasted all their remaining money and replaced every single one of their road signs with the ugly, less-legible Clearview font type, for which the approval has been rescinded.

Thank you Ontario and North Carolina for sticking with the old font. It's appreciated.

Now if Ontario could use more symbols and less text........

ScotiaBank has been pushing Trusteer Rapport security software to help secure online transactions. I finally broke down and installed it a few weeks ago, but uninstalled it last night. Resource hog that noticeably slowed my pretty decent PC (i5 6400, 16GB ram, 1TB hybrid HD).

If you're going to push a product like that, at least make sure it's usable.

I use Kaspersky security stuff anyway, so it really isn't giving me any added protection.

I don't mind them asking, but I did think it was a bit much when I ordered a Whopper meal at Burger King and they asked if I wanted to add 10 chicken nuggets to it.

When businesses force their front line staff to use your name.  It's insincere and annoying for both the customer and the staff person.

There is a small burger chain here called Relish. They insist on saying "We Relish <your name here>" when your burger is ready. It's the worst.

+1, I don't really like this. It doesn't make the order any more accurate, either.

I'm usually a Last name basis kind of person, out of respect. Unless it's close colleagues or friends, of course.
