I'm sure there will be boat load of these on the streets when they finally arrive.  I like the idea of building an SUV off that Fit because the Fit is so good.  I'm not sure the power is exactly what I would want in a vehicle of this size.  I think I might have prefered the 2.0L making closer to 160 hp.  I know that this power plant should be fairly competitive with things like the Trax and Crosstrek, but I think that new Jeep and Fiat entry has more power and the Juke is the sports car out of the bunch.  Maybe the Mazda CX-3 will be the sweet spot with 2.0L making 155 hp (should be the lightest of the bunch also).

Can't seem to find them.

I'm curious to see a photo of this little jumping bean right beside an original CRV. They must be very close in size and weight.
It seems this is what Canada gets instead of the low-to-the-ground Civic Tourer.

or Terrace Bay, Ontario. They have year round surfing there.

The CR-V is about a foot longer (179.4"), about 1" taller (64.6") and about 1/2" longer wheelbase (103.1") than the HR-V.  Haven't seen official weights but estimates are that the base weight of the HR-V will be about 400-500 lbs lighter than the CR-V (base weight on that is 3375 lbs)

update: just read a US article and it states the weight range for the HR-V is 2888 - 3190 lbs. (CR-V:  3375 - 3642)

Not a bad looking vehicle for a Honda these days.  Decent passenger and cargo space for the class too.   But, the power isn't adequate for my liking.  Not a fan of engines with lower tourque than HP output figures, especially when it doesn't come on until well over 4,000 rpms.  It needs a turbo charger or a larger normally aspirated engine.   And the interior is a bit too spartan and cheap looking.   Mabe the next gen Tiguan will fit the entire bill.  Nothing in this class has as yet.

From the outside it looks like a Tucson & Macan hybrid.

The Globe & Mail was over the top in praise of this vehicle today.

I accidentally read the article.

Sorry.

It was like Honda themselves wrote the article...gave it 9 out of 10.

Giving a vehicle like this a faux-coupe roofline and trying to make the rear doors invisible isn't going to fool anyone into thinking this thing is anything except what it is. Getting rid of the ridiculous sloping rear roof and having some actual windows instead of those narrow gun slits in the rear doors would make the HR-V a lot more appealing to me, but as it is I wouldn't even look at it.

Prob would have bought one of these if it existed when we got the Crosstrek.
Honda will sell a $hit ton of 'em.

exterior dimension provided by cowelpic is appreciated.  is that bigger or smaller than kia cube thing?

Agree with the comments that sales will be strong.

Why can't the Japanese put in a proper panoramic moonroof? Livens up the interior and is lovely for fresh air too.

Honda reinvents the Civic Hatch/Wagon as an "SUV" so that people will buy it in droves.

This is one smart product - maybe the smartest they've had in a while.  It will bring buckets of entry level buyers to the brand and then they have lots of places to move to and remain Honda customers.

Brilliant.

Just looking at the roads at the amount of these raised wagon things, I think this a coup for Honda. They will sell every one that they can build. Not my cup of tea, but I already can think of some people we know that would buy one.

Agree .. this looks like a great all-rounder.  I don't think I'd want to be driving up a steep mountain road with 4 people and gear but other  than that looks great.  And, from the pictures, the back doesn't look like it will compromise cargo too much.  It looks like the back is vertical until quite high-up.  If so, then the sloping-bit would not be too large.

Truly a brilliant product. I wish it had a more powerful engine option but the market won't care.
