Kilos are saved a gram at a time.  Backpackers know this - and it seems Mazda engineers do too.

Is that black one a GT with the "high lustre" 17" rims? I like red, I know it's common (for this car).

Yes that is a GT.
I have decided on the grey - all that is available is this one which is an automatic.
So, just going to go with that one.

I am confused?  What do you mean your going to go with that one?  Your not going to get an automatic!?

An automatic Miata seems like a contradiction in terms to me.    A car modelled after the archetypal British sports cars, from the MGB through the Lotus Elan neither of which I remember being even offered with an automatic.

But then better a Miata than many, many other choices.

Here's the story so far:

- Guelph dealer has just the two identical Soul Red GS in stock.  No others incoming at this point.  I want to see other colours (and a GT).  Off to the Kitchener and Waterloo dealers on Sunday to have a look.

Kitchener:
- Have 3 in stock.  White GT, Red GT and black GT inside.  Don't care for the white.  At all.  It is a manual though (only GT I saw that was).  The red has the tan seats, not liking that either (red door trim with tan seats & black dash... to many clashing shades in a small interior).  And automatic to boot.  Hell no.
Off to Waterloo dealer 10 minutes up the road.

Waterloo:
- Have 4 in stock.  2 black GT's, 1 grey GT, 1 grey GS parked inside.  Soon as I saw that grey one... I'm done.  Cue the heavens singing, etc...
- Wanted to see the "Ceramic Metallic", which is a flat light grey - I thought might look good with the black top & dark grey wheels.  None in that shade to see, but based on me not liking the white, don't think I'd care for this grey either -- below is a CX-5 in that shade.   The wee roadster looks way better in dark shades imo.
- The two in black look good too (one with the tan that looks way better than with the red).  Prefer the dark grey though.

- I have another appointment for Thursday afternoon for a top-down run.

- Still not sure if it will be GS or GT.  Admit I really do like the leather... and ya only live once, right?

- Just to make sure this is clear... No automatics allowed.  An MX-5 with an automatic reminds me of those people that dress their dogs up in coats, etc.. and the dog has a "WTF did you do to me" look... that's an automatic MX-5.

- After Thursday's drive, will begin negotiations.  I have the Car Cost prices.  Initially, the G dealer said "factory order, 4 month wait" - now I'm getting "hey - maybe we can find you one".  I'm OK waiting until March/April for delivery as I think walking out into the garage everyday seeing parked there would be worse than knowing one is on the way...

Agreed. That light grey is no good.

But the dark one posted above is probably the best colour of the bunch.

I have to say that I'd wait for March or April delivery... Break in in warm weather. Putting off the winter wheels and tires for 6 months.

That's my preference.
No winter wheels necessary.  This will be parked when the snow flys

Congrats and I agree with tpl, there is something special in factory ordering a car with the exact options / colour you want...the anticipation

I'll echo that.  I know it was fun for me tracking the progress of my car and waiting for it to arrive.  That being said, if I was ordering a Miata, I might not be so happy to get it earlier than expected (say like mid-Feb) as then I wouldn't be able to drive it.

I don't care if 90% of them are red - I LOVE that red.

I made an offhanded remark about buying an ND the other day.  "If you spend $40K on a toy car that gets used seven months of the year you better be prepared to live in it..."
