Ah, seems Porsche removed the grease seals from the 2006-2008 IMS units and that greatly extends the IMS life as they get better cooling and lubrication.

The 2005s aren't worth the savings from a 2007.  That 2007 C4S is still the pick of the litter imo.

The $120K guy needs a new bag of crack as his has gone bad.
^^Agree, but the 07, 08 and 09 997.1 units still have the IMS bearing issue unless it's been replaced.
Railton

In 06 they went with the bigger bearing & it's been a non-issue mainly. Spoke to my mechanic & my buddy who's a Porsche mechanic... both have said that they have yet to see one come in with the IMS issue with the bigger bearing. More concerning that both of them said was to check for scoring on cylinder 5, which is usually found in lower mileage cars that do a lot of stop & go & aren't opened up every once in a while, which has been shown to affect the IMS as well. I've researched the sh!t outta this over the past 6 months  ;D

So, couple of things.
1. Would you say buy an '07 911 over a 2015/6/7 5.0 GT or Camaro SS being similarly priced?  And almost a decade newer...or older in the case of the 911.
2. Why? (keep in mind I've never ridden in or driven a Porsche...chances are slim to none I ever will...I know, sad, sad reality...I will grab a tissue when I'm done) Is the driving experience that much better? Surely future resale will be higher.  Point to the Porsche.
3. More of a pondering thought...so, the trick to owning a 911, still preferably a 2006+, is to beat the shi# out of it.  None of that city driving daily commute stuff.  But rev it, run it hard, put it away wet like a good horse (do people ride horses hard and put them away wet? Don't know that either...never owned a horse.  Rode one. Could give two facks if I never did again...).  Would that be a fair statement?  Because I'm all in if it requires you to drive it like you stole it.  Which is good, because then I'll go cancel my order for that 2018 GT...my wife will be ecstatic.  That 2007 C4 looks pretty damn sweet, and I could make it my commuter, no city driving.

I'd have a tough time deciding between spending $50K on a new 1LE SS or a used 911.  The Camaro is just so fast and so incredible.  But, the 911s won't lose much more value (I think) and so long term could be really inexpensive to own.

And as much as I love the 911's boxer six, that honking big Chev V-8 is insane.  It sounds like a race car, makes enough idle at power to power your neighbourhood, and has a beefy manual behind it that is so much fun to use.

WTF!?!? $120k  http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Porsche/911/LONDON/Ontario/19_10406756_/?showcpo=ShowCPO&orup=33_15_33

The 2012 Club Coupe looks much better IMO..

And installing an IMS upgrade on a 2005 is no big deal if you find a car for the right price IMO. I specifically bought a 99 so I wouldn't have to deal with this issue...but if I found a 05 at the right price? IMS update....and as much as I like the LN Engineering kit, is opt for the direct oil feed IMS upgrade.

But for $40k-ish? I'd have a really hard time passing up a 996 Turbo.

^I really just like the shape of the 997 better, closest look to the 993 without the crazy price.

Now I'm looking...thanks...after this I guess it's Craigslist time...see what prices Cali has to offer... :P

This one's pretty.  IMS done, might even be a swingin' good deal.  Wheels look sharp, and if you're going to have a 911, you need a bigass spoiler on the back.

1999, $25,775

Damn that's hot.  Effin' love those wheels.

Or a 2001 Turbo for $40 even.

Or this '83, also super nice looking car. Probably get smoked by a guy in a Grand Caravan...but at least you'd look cool getting it done to you.

Our family car when I got my licence at 16 was an '81 Civic wagon like this one, only with Hondamatic. Nice memories!

The Hondamatic must have been awfully slow.

He did the IMS for precautionary reasons...even though it wasn't an issue on the 99s. Wasted money IMO.

And an 83 911 was decently quick..low 6s to 60.

That's pretty quick for '83.  IIRC, my '89 5.0 had a 0-60 of 6.7 seconds from the factory.  I thought it was pretty fast back then.  Oh how times have jaded us.

So...Craigslist California...no point shopping US for a Porsche.  With exchange it doesn't appear you'd come out ahead. Maybe a couple of grand. But is a US car worth it, other than what you saved you can use to drive it back.
Here's one, same mileage as the black one with the nice wheels...maybe $2500ish less. Also has nice wheels. But no cool spoiler.  :(

Likewise.  I wonder if there are similar designs available for my Mazda.
