^^ That is some nice living room furniture, woulda put my feet up, but the steering wheel is in the way.

To be fair, without the full leather package it feels kinda cheap IMO....It was a $3,250 option in the US (about $5K in Canada).

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

996s are getting so cheap now, if the engine blows, there's some awesome kits to drop an LS in.  Lighter, more power, what's not to love?  The best part would be watching all the debris from exploded heads at a PCA meet...

Lol tell that to my friend that has a toast engine.   He spent all his money on the car drove a year and it's done.

Doh.   Now he saves again.

Except after seeing what it costs to do these kits (kits run about $10K, plus engine cost once all is said and done.  Then you have to do the install).  LS engines aren't exactly cheap either.  I've seen them...and all said and done it's really no cheaper than replacing the flat 6 engine.  Oh..and it won't pass emissions apparently.  :(

A car I would LOVE to drop the kit in is the 928.  The kit is fairly cheap for that car....

Lemme guess...he didn't do a full PPI with leakdown test prior to purchase?

I think he did.   Not sure.   Burns gobs of oil

If it burns oil, that didn't just happen over the course of a year IMO.  It was likely on the way already..which means scored/worn cylinders possibly.  Maybe a broken ring?  A PPI would have uncovered this more than likely.

Hmmm..not sure what you mean about the instrument panel or console?

The instruments within the instrument pod that is then stuck on top of the main dash. I wish they would have molded that all into one piece. And the same for the center console...the one with the 6 buttons, etc. The 993 considering it was the same model year as my 3-series BMW was archaic in dash design, but I like the minimalist aspect...a reason why I passed on the 997 that I looked at and drove. Maybe I should get an Exige.

Post some inside and outside pics of your car, engine compartment as well.  :)

Neither did I. I checked my car out over two visits; the first, a quick check for any apparent accident damage, and on the second I spent a good 3 hours going over it in detail. My paint meter showed no repaints.

It doesn't consume any oil worth talking about, especially considering it is air cooled. And I wasn't too worried since cylinders and heads can be replaced separately.

I always do a PPI on high dollar cars I'm about to buy.  I did one on my 1986 as well.  For the little it costs, you can learn very quickly the health of the engine.  I always recommend it if you can't do it yourself.  A leakdown test is a must IMO.

I had a member here look at a 996 for me in Vancouver.  After it passed the eyeball test, I had the PPI done.  Here's the result of the PPI

Here's a few pics.  I don't think I took any engine bay pics...not much to see IMO.

Great article.  I think if I was looking at something a bit older to buy and enjoy I would probably be looking for a Acura NSX.  Probably a bit cheaper than the Prosche (but not by much) and is similar with it not losing value during the time you own it.  The big thing that I like most about the NSX is that it's a bit more reliable than the Porsche.  Probably not as much sole though and I think the NSX doesn't offer the same unbostructed view outside or smaller size.

Get an NSX now. Values have been climbing fast. A few years ago, $30k would have gotten you a nice one (I paid $31,500 for the Porsche). Now good luck finding a clean, unmolested, low-miles NSX for twice that.

The view out of the front NSX is spectacular; it's like driving in IMAX. View out the back isn't bad either, but it feels like a big, wide car.
Well I've been eyeing this one in PEI.  http://www.centennialhonda.com/en/usedcars/listing/details.spy?id=5769575

By eyeing I mean I've admired from afar (NB).  Something about buying a car I would love and enjoy, then have the chance of making money once I get tired of it, seems very appealing.

Apparently the people of PEI aren't much for NSX's as this has been sitting at the dealer for around 6 months.  Seems like a reasonable price for a early model with only 150,000 kms on the odometer.  Sure it has after market rims and stereo but those are minor details really (plus they claim to have original rims if you want to go back to stock).

Are we sure it's 150,000 kms? I know it shows the odometer and the mileage but in the "Notes" section it says 150,000 miles or 240,000 km. It would be nice to see a clear picture of the speedo to determine if it is miles or kilometers.

Do it now, they are only going up in price.

A low mileage 911SC in great condition just went for $45k at a Bring-a-trailer auction.

Yep, when I was at the grand opening of Oakville Porsche guys were walking up to him and asking when, not how much. He has carved out a nice little niche for himself and Porsche is helping him big time.
