I was playing around on the jeep website too pre-superbowl and I couldn't immediately figure out what the Sahara provides over the Sport, other than the uniform colour, a $1000 discount on the dual roof option and the inability to remove the $360 Sirius radio surcharge. I built a Sport Unlimited and a Sahara Unlimited ( 6spds) with the same specs (other than the uniform colour) and the Sport was/is $5000 cheaper. Maybe I missed something substantial? Tooscoops anything off the top of your head?

Differences between a base Sport and a base Sahara:

- Hard top with defroster and wiper vs soft top
- HD shocks
- 18" alloys vs 17"
- painted fenders
- power mirrors/windows/locks
- heated mirrors
- air conditioning
- auto dimming rearview mirror
- 7 speaker stereo with subwoofer
- keyless entry with alarm

Price difference is $5575. Add the power convenience group, air conditioning, and a hardtop to the Sport and the price difference drops to $2375.

To the Sport I added:
- 3.71
- rear diff
- tow
- connect group just for the BT
- power group (which includes heated driver mirror?)
- a/c
- dual top (which adds the wiper and defroster, maybe that's why its $1000 less on the Sahara?)
- tube side steps

I added the same/equivalent features on the Sahara and it was $5000 more. I think the subwoofer and keyless entry were each options on the Sahara, that wasn't available at all with the Sport. Maybe keyless entry was part of an option group?

The dual top group is differently priced because the Sport comes with a softtop while the Sahara comes with a hardtop. So on the Sport you're paying extra for the hardtop, and on the Sahara you're paying extra for the softtop. Keyless comes with the power convenience group.

Not sure how you came up with that price difference though. I just added those options to the Sport and Sahara and came up with $37,575 and $39,425, respectively. And it seems like the Sahara forces you to get navigation. So for under $2k you're getting nav with a better stereo, auto dimming mirror, HD shocks, 18" wheels, and the painted fenders. Not unreasonable IMO.

ok... so that lists at 39525 for the sport (plus there is 2500 off and more discounts or so of maybe 1500-2000)

a sahara with comparable equipment is a base sahara with the dual top, max tow, conn., and the must haves of sirius and nav comes in at a list of 41375.

so 1850 gets you:
 painted flares
 18 aluminum wheels
 hd suspension w/ gas shocks
 navigation
 sirius
 silver appearance front/rear and dash
 auto headlights
 115 volt aux power outlet

only thing i probably messed up is the sirius... think i might have had to put that on the sport... so the difference is 350 less and that isn't a selling point of the sahara.

and as i said above, both of those prices would get about 4500 off roughly.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Another interesting comparison is Sahara vs equivalent Rubicon.

$37,215 for a Sahara Unlimited manual + 3.73 axle ratio and limited slip diff
$40,615 for a Rubicon Unlimited manual + freedom top

So $3400 nets you all the off-road goodies. Not bad.

Absolutely, you can't get mud tires, lockers, 4.10 gears and rock rails for that cheap.

Hmmm, I'll have to do it again tonight and post up. A lot of things I thought were stnd on the Sahara like a/c and power I had to choose them as an option. Anyways I'll do it again and post up.

The next question is....what could I reasonably expect as a discount from that website price?

Ok I see what happened. Last night I added a/c with auto temp on the Sahara thinking this was the only way to get A/C. I think I also added heated seats on the Sahara. Also, when adding the Connectivity Group to the Sport I see that if you unselect Sirius at a later step, it automatically unselects the Connectivity Group but it doesn't tell you unless you go back to the Groups and check. Connectivity is listed as $525 but you have to take Sirius with it at $350. As they are bundled together why don't they just price it as $875?

2015 Sport:
6 spd
3.73
rear diff
trailer tow group
power group
connectivity group (but this was unselected last night)
dual top
Tube side steps
a/c
price: $37,575

2015 Sahara:
6 spd
3.73
rear diff
connectivity
trailer
dual top
a/c w/auto temp
heated seats
price: $40,050
less a/c w/auto temp and heated seats: $39,425

2014 models same options as above:
Sport: $34,245
Sahara: $38,020 (less auto temp and heated seats $37,395)

So its not as bad as I reported. 2014 has a $3k difference when similarly optioned, but that gap is almost half for 2015.

Pic of Bossman's new 2015 Wrangler (2" lift), parked behind other bossman's P85D.  Both made it through yesterday's snowfall without any issues.  My Corolla had far more difficulty, though I did not get stuck, hit anything, or even come close to doing either.  Still, I wanted more ground clearance and AWD yesterday, and papa Noto agreed that any future cars in our fleet will be equipped with AWD.

Personally, I'd either go for the base model or the Rubicon.

I agree. They kinda get you though by making you spend $1500 to add air and a rear diff on the Sport.

Was there ever a definitive answer on whether the defrost works without a/c?

I agree....base with LSD, air and dual top package I would be ok with.....for someone that would modify the vehicle, the Rubicon would not make much sense to me.

i'm telling ya.. 2900 list price for the willys... good package. not as severe as the rubi, but not that far off. plus looks kick ass.

as for that pricing that you did, the 14 should be nearly the exact same difference between the two as the 15. there were no changes to availabilities/discounts. basically, the 14 should be about 700 less (price increases on the 15) plus there is an added 1000 after tax rebate.

Is the Willys package on the website? I don't recall seeing it on either the 14 or 15 build sites.

BTW, not that you can do anything about it, the build web sites are annoying. After a few minutes of inactivity if you dare to change a selection the site says there was a problem and you have to rebuild from scratch.

Nope, Willy's hasn't shown up on the configurator. Not have the Rubicon 10AE/X/Hard Rock editions. The Canadian configurator is very lacking.

the freezing/locking out thing, i have no idea about...

the other issue, they don't let you configure anything that you can't order. willys, hard rocks, polar editions... most of those can't be ordered in canada, they are allocation only. (already built and only can get through a dealer rep)

they don't want you going online and building a willys with hard top, upgraded stereo and heated seats only to discover that it is not possible... they are all equipped the same way.

they start with a sport, then add the willys package. this year, they all have
the 6.5" touchscreen radio (no nav)
        dual tops
        a/c
        trailer tow

they did make auto's and standards... so there is that choice, as well as 2 or 4 door and a few colour options.

there might have been one or two they did differently, but the 40 or so i saw on the list for southern ontario/eastern business center just had that.

$2900 for all that? Even for a 4-dr 6-spd? Can I then option a rear diff on a Willys package?
