Fall 2014 Photography Thread
« on: September 27, 2014, 08:10:07 pm »
This isn't exactly inspiring photography but this is a series of test photos taken with a brand new lens. If you check out my recent post in the What You Buy or DYI show off thread you will see a description of this lens which I purchased only yesterday. I won't repeat the whole description here other than to say this is my first truly premium micro four third lens and I'm delighted with this test series.

Here is the way I will demonstrate the lens...

I will post four primary photographs. Each primary photo will be accompanied by a second image which will be a "100% crop" of a portion of that primary photo. For those of you not familiar with the "100 crop" concept, here is the reason this is done: As you know, modern digital cameras take huge images which are way too large to post at full size in this forum (being several thousand pixels wide). We downsize photos for posting in forums. However, this downsizing results in another problem because a downsized photo does not show true image quality. For this reason, we use the 100% crop. First, the downsized photo is posted...but a tiny section of that photo is cropped and posted at full 100% resolution. This "100 % crop" is a better indicator of image quality.

So here it goes:

Now the cropped portion of that image at full resolution:

After breakfast in the dark at treeline on the Skyline Trail in Jasper, I ascended to The Notch by headlamp in order to catch the sunrise.  These were taken on the first day of fall.

Boston Ivy Virginia Creeper on an old fence.  The light was just beautiful yesterday.

In honour of my 500th post, here are a couple pictures of this rare (at least in NA) Fiat Ritmo that has clearly seen better days, that I saw last month.

That is a nice picture!  Did you do process from raw or is this jpeg straight out of a camera?

That is a heck of a fine. A bet there are only a handful of roadworthy examples left. Nice.

How about a '39 LaSalle with a few falls colours sneaking in?

Thanks!  Jpeg, from my camera phone. That fence is in the parking lot at my office!  ;D  I did a small crop to straighten, and a bit of vignette.

Thanks, doug.  It was the late-day light hitting the red ivy, and that's what drew my attention as I was walking to my car.   :)

These little guys are rather trusting, I have them tame enough to take macro shots.   I think I'm their hero as I chase the squirrels away.

I'd mostly agree, but it is only a few hundred metres on our cottage road at 30kph

Interesting!  Both a red-breasted (with eye stripe) and white-breasted nuthatch (no eye stripe).

Nice photo, but I believe that is Virginia Creeper and not Boston Ivy.
