He'll be by soon enough spouting about why going 0-60 in 2.5 seconds is more important than seats.   ;D

Musk should fire himself.

If this was a normal car company, a bumbling CEO like this would have been shown the door long ago.

Tesla Model 3 rated at 334 miles range for top spec battery.
Plus, indications the onboard DC charger is capable of 2x current supercharging rate.

There are whispers that Tesla is going to have to raise the price of the Model 3 to stay afloat, as the car is proving more difficult to manufacture properly than Musk anticipated (though everybody else seemed to anticipate this).

How much does the top spec battery add to the price?

MSRP of $35K USD
Large battery is $9K USD option for 1.6x the range and 0.5s faster 0-60mph.

The resale value on the smaller battery Model S 60 was about $9K lower than the 85 when we bought our CPO (used) S a few years ago.

The original upgrade from 60 to 85 kWh was $20K Canadian.

So, the bigger battery helps resale, and you get about half the cost of that option upgrade back in 4 years, so it's a reasonable option in terms of price effectiveness.

Things like audio you can upgrade later, but getting the biggest battery option in an EV makes a lot of sense as there is no upgrade path except trade-in.

Nissan offered a 24kWh and 30kWh battery option for a short period of time and found everyone wanted the 30kWh option, which became the only option until the new 2018 Leaf offers 40 kWh.   I think manufacturers will trend to offer multiple battery sizes during the current phase when battery cost is such a large percentage of the overall vehicle cost.   Once battery cells get super cheap, things might change.

I don't think you'll be able to upgrade audio in the Model 3 with that all-in-one screen thing...

Are the batteries ACTUALLY different, or is it a keystroke change to have the "larger" battery?  I don't know why, but it really chaps my a$$ that they install the same exact hardware and then charge huge money to enable the battery to work as designed.

I'm not sure they said.  But they've done this in the past with the Model S.

Still way behind on production I see... As rrocket said, Musk would be fired a long time ago elsewhere.

It's a thing:

With 500k cars pre-ordered, trust that if the S has aftermarket, so will 3.

https://electrek.co/2017/08/24/tesla-model-3-exclusive-battery-pack-architecture/

The Model 3 pack is split into modules, the short range battery option has less modules than the long range.

Also, weight of the short range car based on reports is substantially less than long range, therefore, Tesla is building two different packs.

Current Model S & X packs of 75 and 100 are different as well.

Well that's just speakers/amp.

I thought you meant headunit.

Yeah, I'd be very surprised if there was an HU upgrade.

Have you looked at these systems, pretty good stuff!

And Tesla audiophile formats like FLAC which is relatively high end compared to the compressed formats people normally plug into their cars...

I don't see any "systems".  I just see speaker/amp upgrades.

An excellent 4k review and the car is unbelievable. It's totally worth the hype IMO.

I'm not sure it's excellent.  Tesla has a gag order for the early employees Model 3s with regards to negativity.
