Interesting list!  If I had to choose from that list it would probably be the SHO or the G8.  I'd also add the GS400 to the list as well.

i've always liked the G8 GT...if i were in the market, the G8 and late model CTS-V would be my likely choices...i do like the Marauder too, but they are rare, which keeps resale a little higher.

Good list. The 2004 - 2008 Acura TL with the 6sp manual (Dynamic pack or Type S) is another serious sedan worth checking out.

Welcome to the forum, but the TL isn't much different from the Accord, built alongside the Accord, only you can get a 3.2L as well as the 3.5L

Yes, but the important and significant difference for an enthusiast is the availability of the manual trans in the sedan. Plus, the dynamic package and Type S models are very different in how they handle compared to an Accord.

Yeah, I agree with the majority on this one, the Accord stuck out like a sore thumb.....like bringing a CR-V to a rockcrawling event or a Caravan R/T to the start of Lemans, it was seriously out of place. To me a performance sedan is either RWD or AWD and manual.....it would have to have some serious firepower under the hood and the slushbox would have to be amazing to change my mind. For my buck, the G8 with a 6spd would be cool and definitly my pick from the list. I love the M5, but if something goes wrong, that car would be sitting for a long time on my shoestring budget.

Neat article. I've always had a soft spot for the SHO. Poor Accord, we had a 2005 and was a fantastic car for the price...not sure how serious it was though...whatever serious means.

I dunno, I kinda liked how the Accord was on the list simply for the pairing of a V6 with a 5-spd. That's serious...for that class of sedan. I think the Altima SE-R was the only other V6 equipped manual circa mid-2000s in that price bracket? Come to think of it the SE-R was probably more serious than the Accord...

Not sure I would add the Impala SS or the Marauder at only 260 and 300 hp given the rest of the company. I guess the Accord would have to be cut too regardless of the rare powertrain combo.

Good to know about the SHO turbos...I wasn't aware that they potentially had those issues.

I'd probably go with the SHO, maybe a newer 300/Charger. I'd worry about parts availability with the G8, thought the car itself was pretty well done.

I've had more than a few friends/relatives go down the never ending repair cycle with older FGCs, including a guy that put ~$20k in 4 years trying to keep his 750iL on the road. I wouldn't touch one out of warranty with a 10ft pole.

Great list - love these little odd ball feature articles - very entertaining.

When I bought my 92 SHO I was contemplating an Impala - should have bought the Impala.

With the luck I've had with used vehicles I highly doubt I'd ever buy anything older than out of factory warranty. If you value your money I suggest you do the same.

Oh and M5s in particular - I have a buddy that has owned 3 of them. (all different generations) He lives in an apartment now. Just sayin'.
My other Honda is an MP4-31!

The Honda Accord V6 manual was only offered in 2007 in Canada. You could also get a first-gen Mazda 6 V6 with a stick, and the B5 Passat V6 also had a manual transmission. The '02-'09 Altima SE also had a V6 stick. So it was reasonably common in that class for a while.

If your going to add the Accord to the list, or Altima, then you have to consider the AWD Mazdaspeed6 at 274hp with manual!

Love the article, very interesting!!!
I too think the accord should be replace by either a GS/IS350 or G35.
in the list, E39 M5 is my pick.
Otherwise, it goes to the Audi S6 V10, better in wagon form.

I know a guy that bought an E430 for less than 1/3 of the going rate for an M5, and then modded it to over 400hp, and ended up with a pretty fast car for about 1/2 the cost of an M5 and doesn't have to shop for parts at the "M counter."

No IS-F?  Are you kidding me?

Oh...and a Honda Accord V6 was QUICKER than a Mercury Marauder.   ::)  So maybe take that one off your list.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Accord Coupe V-6 6MT is a serious sleeper.  FWD so not on my list of wants, but otherwise a highly underrated car.

So I've read the first paragraph and I see the criteria. Replace the Accord with the 2007+ LS and we're good  :)
