A dressed up 4 Runner for 100k$? No thanks!!!

Land Cruiser.
Land Cruiser is LX570 in Canada. All 3 share the same platform with 4Runner. So they are both dressed up 4Runner. Besides Land Cruser is not sold in Canada

I'm pretty sure that the Land Cruiser Prado/4Runner/GX460 is a different platform than the Land Cruiser/LX570 has.

Good catch. I was mixing Prado with regular Land Cruiser. The name is misleading though.

No doubt about it. All comes down to priorities. Let's not forget that a lot of people lease their automobiles which can make luxury cars affordable or at least more attainable to the middle class . I'm not sure on the exact statistic for Canada but I know it's reasonably high. AND some of my friends are able to "right-off" their luxury leases as business owners. At any rate, this vehicle is very costly and even more so when you factor in depreciation.

Revenue Canada sets a limit on the amount you can write off on both leased and owned vehicles.  The max on a lease amount is roughly $36000 over a 5 year term or $30,000 + taxes for an owned vehicle.  Either way, only about a third of this truck could be written off which, over those five years, wouldn't even recover the depreciation in the first year.

We tested a GX and LX last year, and wow did the missus love the GX.  I wouldn't have thought a frame on body SUV could ride like a luxury sedan, but Lexus mastered that.

But, they're both massive gas hogs, using way more fuel than the V-6 machines like the Highlander.

Would the GX use a whole lot more fuel than a 4Runner with the 4.0L V6?  What was the difference in 4Runner mileage when both the 4.0L V6 and 4.6L (or 4.7L?) V8 were offered?  I would understand worse mileage than a lighter CUV like the Highlander with the 3.5L.  But you gots to pay something for all that weight!

Fuelly shows ~ 13L/100km for the 4Runner and about 16L/100km for the GX

Highlander is about 11.75L/100KM
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Yeah, we're seeing 11-12L/100km in all city driving in the HL, which a GX can't come close to.  I'm not a "hypermiler" by any means, but do drive smoothly.

So, as comfy and solid feeling as the GX was, watching the gas gauge drop with every second of driving was not fun.  The LX is worse.

One thing we really liked about the GX was the third row.  It's an old-fashioned set up with removable seats.  I liked that as there's no cargo compromise when the seats aren't needed.  You have to haul them out, but worth it to me.

This is why people have car loans of 3-7 years and mortgages on their houses of 25 years.   You pay for the expensive stuff with future income.

Yes, everyone wants everything now.

My wife wouldn't touch those things with a 10ft pole, waaaaaaaay to big for any rational person.

The only land cruiser I'd like to have would be something pre 1980.

I can't imagine many people choosing this over a Range Rover or even a Mercedes GL.

Done that and never looked back .
I bought my 12th Merc. a MB GL 550 and love it .
Friend of mine bought his 3rd Range Rover and loves it too .
I am not into to buying cheap knock offs because I don't have to .
Lexus makes a good car but in my eyes nothing more than a good knock off .
