Yesterday went to drive the truck after it had been sitting for a few days. Nothing happenedc, no lights, no chimes, nothing .  Apparently I left the ignition on. Whoops.  Thew my battery charger on it and let it sit for the night.

Today I dropped it off so they could look at / repair the rear axle seal.  It had leaked a bunch of fluid all over the right wheel and brakes.  Hopefully this one isn't too $$$$.

It's an '01 with almost 300,000 and runs perfectly.  Though, it does make me wonder what's next.

F-150, right? Pretty basic trucks, I wouldn't be too worried about it if you've been on top of the maintenance. Even when it does break, repair costs should be fairly reasonable.

Yep, an F-150.

Shop said that the seal can often wear a groove in the axle, particularly the right side, and that is whats causes the leak.  Pretty common at high mileage they said.

If that's the case they said $800.

had the V60 lease return pre-inspection.

I wasn't there for it (my wife handled the duties) and all went well except the report mentioned some scratches on the bumper that could be rubbed-out so no charge.  This bugged me .. because .. there is a 3M film on the bumper and those "scratches" are just rubs in the film.  I woulda thought the inspector would see that.

I was more worried about a tear in the 3M underneath the front of the car (where my wife drove into a low parking barrier) that looked like a gouge.  However, apparently the inspector was a very-large-fellow and my wife said she didn't think he could even bend down low enough to look underneath the car.

Probably all immaterial anyway as I am leaning towards buying it out.

I am in a similar situation.  Halfway through the lease.  Lower front bumper has a couple of scratches from my wife rubbing the barrier.  No gouge are anything, just scratches.  You have to go under the car to see it.  Hopefully they miss it.   More than likely will buy it out, but if we don't, hope it's not like $1000.

Added 50cl of motor oil that just arrived in the post today (15 $US incl shipping.......). Seems like it was just yesterday that I added a litre- it wasn't, but it seems like it.

The 3er has an appetite for motor oil of approx 1 litre/10k km. The autobahn creates a thirsty backdrop for the N52........

That's minimal oil usage.

Likely different driving profiles. A bunch of hill climbing where I live, I usually run 2-3rd gears up to 3,5 or 4k u/min due to no torque, and the derestricted secteurs of rural freeways I run sustained cruise control at 130-150km/h with occasional gusts higher (3-4k u/min in 6th). Also as the 325i was purchased as a Jahreswagen, we don't know how the break-in was done.

My prior X3 with the 2,5 litre M54 petrol also consumed oil, if anything, at a slightly higher rate. So it's all within spec; i just tend to rack up more km than most so it is like..."didn't I just top off?".

Changed the transmission fluid in the 951, biggest pain in the A$$ was getting the new gear oil in, fackin pain! Shifts smoother now though, can feel the difference & the old oil was pretty rough looking & had that old gear oil smell.

Do you have to use the expensive and hard to find Swepco 201, or something a bit more common?

Those 944 transmissions actually have pretty good clearance as manual trannys go.  What makes it a pain is not having an electric pump to refill.  Put that on your buy list.

The Swepco 201 would've been nice, but like you said too hard to find.  I just went with the Royal Purple 75W90, it meets the requirements as outlined in the owners manual & others have had decent experience with it.  Mobil 1 75w90 is another popular one, but I couldn't find any at my local Cdn Tire & was pressed for time as I wanted to change it before I hit the track on Friday.  Next time I'll be better prepared & pick up some Swepco 201 or the Redline.

I have a hand pump, but it didn't fit on the bottles I bought, so then I used a hose & ran it over the drivers side wheel, over the exhaust & into the fill hole, but that was slow & long... and messy!!  Last 2 bottles (were only 1 quart bottles) I just fished in over the exhaust, jammed the spout in the filler hole & was able to tilt the bottle up over 45 degrees  ;D  Ended up with about 2.5L in there, which is 100ml less than the owners manual says, but guessing there was still some old oil sitting in there.

I didn't even think of the $20/bottle, I was more pissed off with oil that got all over my shorts, then down my leg & onto my flip flops that I was wearing   :rofl2:

I would probably just pay an independent to do it.  If it's not as straight forward as most mainstream cars..
