No way I'm watching that depressing stuff at this time

Amazon Prime has a lot of old comedies and action movies which are looking pretty good about now: Old School, Running Man, Mean Girls, Die Hard etc

Was watching 'Eurotrip' last night, always recognized Vinnie Jones as a soccer holigan, but never Fred Armisen as the creepy Italian on the train:

I thought it would be fun to watch Contagion, but my wife put the kibosh on that.  :rofl2:

As a compromise, I said "Okay, let's watch Chernobyl."

Her response: "Cher-what? Whats that?"  ???

She'd actually never heard of Chernobyl. Zero recollection of a major nuclear accident that freaked everyone out back in the eighties. Huh.

Anyway, she wasn't too happy at first. Hid under a blanket for most of the first episode: "Dammit, why can't we watch something happy?"

Happy stuff is overrated. Give me dark stuff any day.

She wants a rom-com, a chick flick.

I'm actually lucky. She hates the cheesy rom-coms as much as I do.  :P

I know it's a series, not a movie, but she wanted to watch season two of My Brilliant Friend. I actually thought season 1 was pretty good, and am looking forward to season 2 as well. It's not exactly happy, but at least not end-time depressing.  ;D

Maybe when Chernobyl wraps up.

You should watch Black Summer (Netflix). Very good.

Ironically, the shooting of season 2 (in Calgary) has been delayed to the coronavirus outbreak.

^^ yeah, it's on my list of stuff to check out. Didn't know it was shot in Calgary, though. Neat.

My wife doesn't like watching anything dark or violent either.  Surprisingly she seems to be tolerating Peaky Blinders.

Been looking for something else to watch and I came across Once Upon A Time In America.  I remember being blown away by this film when i first watched it on VHS back in the late eighties.  I was working away staying in hotels at that time and used to drag my clunky RCA Hifi VCR around with me and rent movies to pass the off time.  It came on two tapes and I planned on watching in two nights but was so enthralled that i watched the entire movie in one night.  Haven't had time to watch it since so will be interesting to see if I still feel this way.

I remember talking about movies with friends one time much later and was telling them how much i liked the movie and recommended it for them to watch.  They did and I was surprised they both HATED it.  I didn't realize until after that the American theatre version was edited in half and the one they watched on DVD.  ::)  I never did watch that version but it was ruined and flopped at the box office in NA as a result.  Interesting review here that explains the story well.

Highly recommended if you like gangster movies and have four hours to burn.

Spencer on Netflix was a good watch. Little thinking, good action, some laughs, great sound, great picture. Perfect for self isolation viewing. Imagine many that watch this have no idea who Robert Urich is.

We sat down to watch Spenser Confidential this afternoon after seeing the trailer-teaser the day before.  We both enjoyed it immensely, although one had to suspend one's disbelief at the punishment Wahlberg's Spencer took without much permanent damage.

I preferred this movie over the series with Robert Urich.

We started watching it, and turned it off.  The acting is terrible.  I'm disappointed in Marky Mark for starring in such a terrible movie.  Usually my wife and I like him.

We watched it  (Spenser Confidential) last night. My wife lost interest after the first 30 minutes and left to do other stuff. I persevered but it was pretty badly written and acted.  Also, other than the names of 2-3 characters and the Boston location it has zero connection to the books or the Robert Urich TV show.

Ready Player One (2018)

When the creator of a virtual reality called the OASIS dies, he makes a posthumous challenge to all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune and control of his world.

I enjoyed this movie. Something different, great picture, amazing sound, and that final explosion was off the charts.

I could watch that movie over and over again!  So many little details that you miss on the first and second viewing.  Another one that I really enjoy for similar reasons is "Pixels."  And it always makes me laugh.

You have to look really, REALLY closely.

So many Easter Eggs in this movie! Several eater egg cars in the beginning alone!  (Car from Christine, A-Team van, KITT, Speed Racer, etc)

We even saw Hello Kitty walking around at some point!

We both liked this movie because of that...
