I don't think it's fair to put Mad Max in the same character as Transformers.

I do.  There was no real story in either.  At least not worth mentioning.  No real character development or interest in characters for that matter.  Granted these were just "explody" action movies.

You only watched these movies because:

1) Explosions
2) Interesting Cars

So I think the comparison is fair IMO.

YMMV.

Sure, they're both action movies. But Mad Max had good acting and practical effects vs. a ton of pure CGI in Transformers.

It sounds to me like you just don't like that type of movie, which is fine. God knows I hate on a ton of movie genres too. But that doesn't make the movie terrible.

I like action movies.  Just not those 2.

And I'm not sure about the good acting part....Tom Hardy didn't say/do much..let alone anything that required much acting skill period.  On the other hand, Hardy's acting skill was on display in The Revenant.

Wife was working nights so I watched Sicario.  I had really high hopes.  Have to say, I didn't like the character played by Emily Blunt.  She didn't add anything to the "Elite team".  Benicio del Toro was great, as usual. The cinematography was great, and the sound.  It was pretty good, but left wanting more...

I really liked her in "Edge of Tomorrow", but I think that worked against me when I watched her in "Sicario".  I think she was meant to be the everyman, not the "Angel of Verdun/Full Metal B_tch"; so, there was a bit of a disconnect for me.  I kept expecting her to pull out that four foot long cleaver from EoT and go postal on the cartel guys. :)

Edit: sorry, mixed up her nicknames in the movie.

Have the blu-ray in wrapping, still have to watch that one.  Been putting it off.  Not a big fan of Tom Cruise.

I liked Edge of Tomorrow so much requested it for one of my movie birthday gifts last year, along with Guardians of the Galaxy.

If you don't like Tom Cruise you'll get a kick out of him getting killed repeatedly:

and Emily was awesome

But Sicario, I agree. She seemed to be needlessly fighting against everything, stupidly so. I got the point, but think it was overdone.

You should watch it it's good.  Besides, Tommy has been scientifically proven to be MUCH better than, say, Will Farrell - now him, him I could understand as a reason for not wanting to watch a movie.  You'll like Tom in EoT - he dies numerous times. The ending will be sad for you though...since he doesn't really die in the end.

I will watch it.  Have only had it a three months, I will get to it.  Wife doesn't want to watch it.  I probably only have 1-2 opportunities a week to watch a movie, and half the time she watches one with me.  So 2 movies a month, are my picks!

THIS.  99% of the stunts you saw in Mad Max were REAL.  Most of the CGI they did was for the big landscape shots to make the sky look right.  Other than that, they actually built the rigs, they really had guys on poles at 80mph, and they really flipped cars with people in them.  Mad Max isn't even in the same league as the Transformers.

that's right on... it's more just what style of movie you like better... michael bay blowing up the world in disaster porn style, or choreographed stunts.... each have their values. i get in moods where i stick to one sort for a while...

finally got around to seeing kingsman... that's my kind of spy movie... over the top plot, special effects, amazingly choreographed fight scenes, gadget galore, a few good laughs... really enjoyed it.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

^ Loved Kingsman.  That church fight scene was one of the greatest things I've ever seen.  And the exploding heads.

I thought kingsmen was a pretty good rental.  Kind of like in between Austin Powers and James Bond.

Sure it was. They both sucked IMO! :D
