This is one extreamly smart car and a fantastic masterpiece of engineering.

Probably is as delivered ...  NEW.

How about year 5, year 7 and finally year 10.  ???

Traditionally, year 7 to 10 is when GM's start falling apart.

So the question is:  who pays for what, when.  :)

What are the warranty specifics on this vehicle?

Also keep in mind if it gets colder than -5C the engine may come on (due to temperature) for short periods of time.  Not for power or electricity but just to generate heat to keep the battery in it's optimum performance.
perhaps if you are driving it, yes, but certainly not while it is sitting in your garage...that makes no sense at all.

Chevy recommends you keep it plugged in when it is going to sit of extended periods of time below freezing to keep the battery warm.

Be interested in your final opinion James if you find in the end if its "worth it" to get such a vehicle. This thing is pretty much the pinnacle of fuel efficiency right now so I shall read on in anticipation!

Until next summer when the Prius Plug-In arrives.

The Prius has been the most bullet proof Toyota currently made.  Hence the reliability factor for the Plug In is there since it's more or less is a normal Prius plus some extra batteries and charging circuits.  The "hybrid" system remains the same as the current Prius.

The lithium-ion battery pack can be charged in 180 minutes at 120 volts or in 90 minutes at 240 volts

To stop the usual arguements, I acknowledge, at least until we hear from his Majesty, James The Ist, Earl of the Ottawa Woodlands, that the Volt has double the range, but after that the gas mileage SUCKS.

This is a 3 year lease only vehicle.  Bumper to bumper on this particular vehicle should be 5 years.

The Prius is a plug-in hybrid though not an electric car.

It goes what 15km in real world?  The thing that really irks me about it is that the engine can't charge the second cell.  Once you drain the plug-in portion you are toast and it's a regular hybrid now with extra weight being hauled around for nothing. It's going to be difficult to adopt these things, everyone I talk to says they can't be bothered to plug in their car.  How many people even plug in their block heater?  I never do.

13 MILES.

The Prius is a plug-in hybrid though not an electric car.

Which makes it better IMO.  You've got some electric range if you qualify for short commute and you've got a normal car that gets best mileage that you can take longer distance into the hinterland.

The Volts has double the range which is GOOD, but after that it gets lousy gas mileage and the charging times are ridiculous.

It's going to be difficult to adopt these things, everyone I talk to says they can't be bothered to plug in their car.  How many people even plug in their block heater?  I never do

These cars aren't for everybody.  They appeal to ppl that love trying to beat the system regardless of the costs.  These ppl will love the act of plugging in.  :)  Currently, even with 5K green subsidy which will disappear soon I'm sure the costs don't warrant the gas savings.

I wouldn't say the Volt gets 'lousy' mileage; more mediocre.  I drove it just like I drove the Prius V (article comes out tomorrow) and while it got worse mileage on pure gas, it wasn't horrible.  The Volt got 8.1 L/100 km in my hands on gas and the Prius V got 6.1 L/100 KM (both mixed highway city, 110KM round trip).   With nightly charges included the Volt dropped to 4.7 over 500KM compared to the Prius V still at 6.1L.

The CT 200h we returned Monday got 6.0 L/100 km.

Didn't know the Prius V came with a Plug in  :)

Prius V has significant less fuel economy rating than the Prius.  What's the point of using the V as a comparison for fuel economy.

The Volt has DOUBLE the electric range of the Prius.  After that, it's all Prius.

I haven't driven the regular Prius yet so I couldn't comment on the real world yet :)

The volts catch fire after a crash. So don't hit anyone.

Because U.S. safety regulators are investigating a potential fire hazard in crashed Chevrolet Volts, General Motors will offer current Volt owners in the United States and Canada alternate vehicles until a remedy can be found.

I doubt you'll get 13 miles Ina Prius not real miles anyways, considering the volt is rated at 80 and I got nowhere near that today.
