The Beer Thread
« on: December 30, 2010, 10:10:06 pm »
I posted this on another forum that I'm an Admin on and figured I'd posted it here  I have an iPhone app where you can rate, take pictures, comment, and share your thoughts on the different beers you try.  I figured this might be a great reason to start a thread as there are various types of beers and microbreweries from one place to the next.  If one of us is visiting that area, we'll know what types of great beers to try.

So perhaps we should keep a standard format when posting.  Something like

* Name of Beer
* Type of Beer
* Alcohol %
* Price of beer
* How it was served (bottle, tap, can)
* Brewery
* Country of Origin
* Your rating out of 5 stars.

I'll start.

* Name of Beer - Youngs Double Chocoate Stout
* Type of Beer - Stout
* Alcohol % - 5.2
* Price of beer - $4.50 per bottle
* How it was served (bottle, tap, can) - Bottle
* Brewery - Wells & Youngs Brewing Co.
* Country of Origin - UK
* Your rating out of 5 stars - 5
* Comments - Truly one of the best beers I've ever had.  A great stout with just a hint of chocolate.

^  They are not available in a can in NB so I can't comment.  But they are one fantastic beer in the bottle.  Post up your own choices when you get a chance.

I do like a few stouts with my stogies though.  St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout is fantastic!!

James, the iPhone app is simply called Beer and it's by Metosphere....and it's free.

Good choice on the Guinness and Stella as they are both fantastic beers.  :)

It's winter peeps. Have some wine! ;D

I've got plenty of that as well as I have a wine cellar in my house that has a minimum of 250-300 bottles at all times!   ;D

Had this one last night:

* Name of Beer - Betelgeuse
* Type of Beer - Belgian Style Tripel
* Alcohol % - 8.5%
* Price of beer - ?
* How it was served (bottle, tap, can) - Bottle
* Brewery - Mill St. Brewery,   Toronto
* Country of Origin - Canada
* Your rating out of 5 stars.  ***
* Comments - From a Mill St. sampler pack I got for Christmas.  Very fruity (lots of citrus), too much for my taste - lingers long on the palate. Interesting to try but I wouldn't want another.

I really like their Tankhouse Ale though - one of my favourites.

I also like to support our local guys.  F & M Brewery and Wellington here in Guelph make some excellent stuff.

Into it already eh??   ;D

Your comment sums up my thoughts exactly.

Not sure if Wellington ships out your way,,, i think its only around S. Ontario (?)  but try their S.P.A. (Special Pale Ale) if you get the chance.  Good stuff.

The joy of Wellington , as far as I am concerned, is that around Guelph the draft Arkell and County bitters are available in some pubs and....sometimes... served at the right temperature.  Like 40 deg F or even 45 deg.  rather than ice cold.
