Looks good!  Illegal but looks good lol
Thanks! Actually, I did nothing illegal. The city allows this now, as long as you don't go more than 50% of your property width. I think our neighborhood is the reason they're allowing this now.

Removing the tree wasn't originally in the plan. It was going to be in the way, and the roots were going to destroy my work. Besides, I replaced it.

^^I'm pretty sure it will fit in the living room.   ;D

Create idea!  I'd do it if my wife let me :rofl2:   Do you remember the 70's TV show Vegas starring Robert Urich?  He parked in Thunderbird inside.

The city changed the bylaw?

Doesn't matter to me, but I'd be surprised if they did.  50% hardscape, 50% softscape.  BUT hardscaping cannot encroach on the front of the dwelling -- IE only in front of the garage.

But everyone does it, as long as bylaw doesn't see it or you neighbours don't complain.

Nice! It's convenient how your curb/sidewalk is setup, allows you for any shape driveway...

Awesome feature.  Nice to see new ideas getting used.

Great job.  Critical really for anyone with more than one daily driver.

Can't help myself, but what's with the yellow caution tape?  :)

I found it
http://ottawa.ca/en/residents/laws-licenses-and-permits/laws/city-ottawa-zoning-law/location-parking-sec-109

No part of a parking space introduced under subsection (5) may obstruct:
(a)
a walkway; or
(b)
the entrance of a dwelling.

I used to watch that show!  :rofl2:  I think it was on around the same time as Rockford Files and Starsky and Hutch.  Lots of shows at that time had autos as co-stars.

Nice upgrade.  The bricked area is a "walk-way".

What tree?  I don't see a tree.   Make sure it doesn't show up in the Googlemaps satellite pics.  ;D

I also watched those shows and "McMillan & Wife" (Lincoln Continental), "Cannon"  (Lincoln Mark III), and "Hawaii Five-0".  No wonder I'm a car nut ;D

As Dr Spock said, it's not a parking space, but a car sized patio  ;)

Driveway looks great 5 Wheel. I do enjoy working with stone/interlock but man do I hate excavating, lol. I wouldn't sweat the legalities either way, Dr spock's idea seems to work around here, everyone just expands the "walkway" and then parks on it.

I remember reading that a while ago. There was an update to this from our city coucellor last year, I think. If I'm remembering correctly, due to the high number of complaints about on street parking in our neighborhood, the city looked into it. They came to the realization that, in general, people have more cars than they anticipated. As well, the number of people who actually use their garage to park a vehicle, is a lot smaller that they realized as well. So, they either made a change, or relazed it to reduce the amount of on street parking. Whenever the topic comes up on our community fb page, it sure seems to be a sore spot with a lot of people.

When we bought the house, we only had 1 car and the motorcycle. It worked for us at the time. Our 2nd son came along, and he has some developmental issues. With all the doctors and physio appointment, trips to cheo, we had no choice but to buy a 2nd car. This is my solution so I don't contribute to the on street parking problem we have around here. I'm by no means the first person to do this. If they ever did clamp down, bylaw would have a field day in this neighborhood!

If that tree you removed was planted by you .... then ignore this.   However, it seems that you cut down a city tree and replaced it with a TWIG.  That yellow tape is like fly paper to By-law and Building Inspectors.  The rubble on the driveway doesn't help.

Whale with largest spout gets the harponi.

The thing is that municipalities by default don't seek out bylaw infractions.  However, if they are called about something or spot it on a drive by while in progress they will act to save their jobs.  It's that basic.

I salute your actions, just cover up that rubble with a tarp, buy a few pieces of sod where that tree was and get rid of the tape.

Would the city really plant a tree that far in board on his property?  On their own dime?

33 feet from the middle of the road is the City allowance.  Looks like the typical sub division tree developers are obligated to install every so many feet.

Generally, the city water turn off valve to the dwelling is right on the border line.

Yeah, the water shut-off here is about 1/3 of the way up our driveway, maybe more. Everything between there and the street is Town property.

Actually I was also intrigued to note there was no gap between the sidewalk and the street... I guess the goal being to cram one more street of houses in a larger plot of land?
I know this past year with the DUMPING of snow we got that gap was filled with snow... this must make snow removal much mroe difficult with so much less space
