On my canoe trip this weekend, we went to Algonquin park (access point 17), we took my friends 2006 Honda Accord (4 cylinder), we had the cruise set to 120km/h on the major highways, and were speeding through the gravel roads, A/C on fan speed 2.  Managed to get 850km on the tank, 6.8L/100km.  Trunk was loaded with 3 large backpacks, and the other half of the back seat was loaded as well.  Damn Accord with those seats that don't fold.  I wanted to take one of the vans, but he felt like taking the car...

Driving 20kms of city streets and catching the majority of green lights = 7.5L/100

401 East out to Kingston ish and then back in the TL, 120 most of the way = 8.2L/100km, with AC on.

Slightly disappointing. Will try straight 110 next time.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.

What were you expecting? High 7's?

Does the TL use Hondas cylinder deactivation system?

Yes. The (V8) CLK was able to do 8.2L on the highway @ 120, so I figured the TL should be a bit better.

Nope.

Managed a 7.2 in the Crosstrek on a highway trip a couple weeks ago.  Not bad considering it was hot with a/c blowing the whole time.

that does sound a bit high for HWY...I often get 7.8-8.3L +A/C on my SHO, depending on the speed (100-120km/h). Bad gas perhaps?

Highway mileage numbers being similar makes some sense actually... the taurus could be more aerodynamic, and most cars do similar-ish numbers on the highway.

The focus for example does around 6.5-6.8 l/100km at 120 with AC.... I don't achieve that very often since I tend to use 120 as a minimum (75 mph limits in Maine helps with that)

The Corolla, on the other hand, rarely hits above 6.5, and 7.0 is city driving.

Its almost always been low 8s, now that I think about it. So I think its just a permanent fact of life.

When was the last time you checked your tire pressure?

Last tank, 331 km, 40.531L, 12.25 lphk, still about 50/50 hwy/city.

Tried commuting at 110 kph on hwy, keeping up with traffic in the left lane. Will attempt to stay in the right lane and see what happens. As noted before, the "brick" or "two brick" body style does not lend itself to slicing through the air in an efficient manner  :D

down the 11.7 on my last tank!

rarely had the roof down, and a few backroad "hwy" trips helped i'm sure... low, constant speeds.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Really?  That's what I get in the Highlander is the city!  Ouch!! You just need a Toyota, lol. We can't get worse than 8 in the Corolla, and some friends of ours with the Eco 2014 model are consistently in the 6s in the city.

how is your commute? I am curious...mine is about 8km, lots of stop-and-go, never drive faster than 60km/h.

I never thought I'd hear it, but my wife said she might be Toyota Hybrid next
She hasn't even had her crazy cute lovely car for a year yet.

advertising let her down.   I warned her the Fiat wouldn't be as good as the Yaris....
she's pretty bummed.
