Hopefully this is still around when it comes time to replace my current Civic SI. It would also be nice if it is equally as reliable and long lasting!

Saw this today, thought it was interesting. Not that the dealers around here don't upcharge a lot already:

Honda is deploying a dangerous playbook.

The automaker has vowed to begin trimming dealers' profit margins, with its Canadian dealers taking as much as a 44% hit to their vehicle margins.

But there's more...

It doesn't just want a bigger piece of vehicle profits.

Just this morning, the automaker sent out a notice to Honda dealership parts departments spelling out price increases on replacement auto parts and accessories—all effective April 1.

(Guess who these added costs will get passed on to...)

The brand is on an aggressive mission to claw back dollars.

And here's the reason why:

It needs all the capital it can get to support a costly transition to electric vehicles.

As it stands, it's EVs are too expensive and it needs to bring the prices down.

The result of all this...

1) Dealers are up-in-arms.
2) Consumers are unaware (for now...)
3) And Honda is pushing forward.

A very slippery slope—

And gives off "Ford vibes" circa 2022/2023.

This will be a battle.

The 1.5T is known for not being the most reliable.  It needs the previous Accord 2.0L with 260 hp to even be remotely competitive.

Still a relative bargain considering 50K is the new 30K.

I've read about the oil dilution issues on earlier engines but they seemed to have solved this issue. Civic SI has never been a power house relative to the competition but were/are a blast to drive regardless.

1.5T has problems with going through head gaskets as well.

Yes, but those cars had an 8000 RPM redline with VTEC. It was a riot to run these things right into the Red. And they were a hell of a lot lighter too.
