Yeah but if I'm spending a few hours a day going 1.2 km/h, seat comfort, space, stereo quality would be way more important to me.

I test drove a Micra, and it's not the penalty box everyone likes to make it out as.  It's a pretty decent car and as basic transportation, a really good buy.

People buying this just want an inexpensive NEW car.  For $15K you can buy all manner of used enthusiast cars from a Miata to a Mustang or Abarth or whatever.  The buyer of a Micra won't be thinking "oh, look, I can buy some used car for the same."  No, they want a NEW car with a new warranty and new tires and new everything.  They want cheap insurance, cheap payments (new car financing is cheap) and the lowest costs for service and repairs possible.  Good fuel economy too.

Yes, I know it's easy to show that buying a used car that was more money originally means you get "more" car and actually might cost you less as the depreciation curve is less steep, but that's not how Micra buyers think.  They want a cheap new car.

And as cheap new cars go, it's pretty good.  Priced about the same as the Mirage - and 1000x the car.

I test drove one in August 2014 and I agree with you.  I thought it was good car.

I'll also point out that all late-model used cars are being sucked into the US right now, driving up used prices. It's currently cheaper to buy new on low-rate financing than a 2 year old car on bank financing most of the time. Throw in a full warranty, knowing you've not done anything to the car (why is it being sold after 2 years I wonder??!!) and that new car smell and of course these will sell.

I don't think it's a penalty box. I like these cars. I just think it needs a model priced between the S and the SV; it needs aircon and that's about it!

This is written for idiots, telling me it is exception a small car like this one to accommodate tall driver/passenger. There are bunch of cars in Europe as well in Japan, designed for the regular population. Well, may not be for overweighed fat Americans, but it's a different topic. The same story is the rear sit - many subcompacts overseas are that big inside but smaller from outside. It is a design philosophy Pininfarina began with Fiat 124. The real problem with Micra in North America is totally different. It is overpriced comparing with next step bigger compacts. The car is niche product without future (sales) here...

Spot on overall, but especially this.

Maybe people do not want to buy someone elses problems. There are enough reported on here. Also there was a gas price scare when these came out with prices rising to almost a buck fifty a liter. Small cars suddenly were apropos.

A "rebuilt by qualified shop," and 64K? Sold with rebuilt title. Insurance companies don't like that much.
