I believe the diesel engine displaces 3.0L and not 3.5L.

I don't think being a diesel has had anything to do with my ML's issues.  Although,having said that, The GLS is liable to have even more complex electronic systems than my ML and that would make me tend to agree with you in terms of "no thanks"
