Rolex 24 and Continental Tire Challenge This Weekend at Daytona
« on: January 25, 2016, 05:56:20 pm »
Racing begins for another year.  :D

Starting this Friday January 29, the CTSCC is on live at imsa.com from 1:45 PM to 4:15 PM. Then the Rolex 24 begins at 2 PM on Saturday. Its covered by Fox Sports and I'm not sure if imsa.com is streaming it for Canadians or not. Definitely live timing and scoring is available, and from 10 PM Saturday there is definitely live coverage for everyone on imsa.com.

The top GT class, GTLM should be particularly interesting as the 10 cars were within .8 of a second around Daytona in the test days. Those include 2 of the new Ford GTs and 2 new BMW M6's. Also the new Ferrari 488 enters competition for the first time. The Corvette C7-R and Porsche 911 RSR return but have improvements since last year.

The slightly slower GT Daytona class has changed to full Euro GT3 spec cars this year, and has the most entries including Aston Martin Vantage GT3, Audi R8 LMS GT3, BMW M6 GT3, Ferrari 458 Italia GT3, Lamborghini Huracán GT3, Porsche 911 GT3-R, SRT Viper GT3-R.

The two prototype classes should also be interesting. Prototype Challenge, the slower spec class, is always close and has lots of 'name' drivers. The top prototype class is fascinating as the Delta Wing is now fully competitive, Mazda has switched from diesel to an AER 2.0 gas turbo and is now fully competitive, and the P2 cars and Daytona prototypes are running about the same times as well.

Let the racing begin!  ;D
