so many times a dealer just wants to wash their hands of these cars... if their name is tacked on a deal, even as-is, it seems to come back to them.
i have had it happen countless times. "the transmission is out of this thing and i only had it three months! what are you gonna do about it?!"
"you paid 500 bucks and signed off on the 'as-is' form... i'm going to pour myself another coffee, that's what i'm gonna do"
unfortunately, even with all the rules in place, we end up having to do something or face a public outcry from a bunch of the buyers friends and family... one lost new car deal is already a bigger loss than the price of the wholesale car.
hope you manage to get it, but i think it was a case where you had to be in there with the other buyer...
