Shrugs. I think the Arteon, at least in those photos, looks way better than the Jetta.
i think they both look good, but there's no denying the Arteon looks awfully similar to the Jetta, just a bit bigger and a bit more premium (hence the price increase).

Jetta has never had any flare.  It's a shame TDI with DSG isn't available...now it really has no flare.

I'm glad VW isn't trying to make it something its not. This is a commuter car with decent ergos and acceptable road manners.

VW dealer called me to test drive the new one, I'm leaning towards getting the fix.

Green flair...nice, I give VW credit for offering colours on all trims.

i wouldn't fix it...it was never designed to use whatever they are going to do to it...it will be a Frankenstein patch job.

My dad has the fix on his '14 Golf and it works fine. I didn't notice any difference in how it drove.

Nonsense.

The 2015 Jetta has the EA288 engine which was the easiest to make compliant with the emissions regulations.  Plus the fix will bring with it a warranty to 262,000 km on all the emissions components.  Plus he'll get a pocketful of cash.

^ agreed.  It's a great car and I wouldn't get a new one solely because the dealer called him to do so.  Pocket the cash as future depreciated value, sell it at the time you were originally considering doing so before the scandal.

First phase of the fix is software and appears to have little overall impact of the car. It's the second phase I'm worried about as it includes emissions hardware components. I have been waiting patiently to get feedback on the second phase. It has been approved by EPA and CARB and my understanding is parts should be arriving at dealers soon.

Our original plan was to keep this car long term and pile hwy commuting km's on it. I have tried out a few other cars but none of them seem to impress us like the TDI has. I will check out the new Jetta and might even consider it if a screaming deal is available but I highly doubt it.

I have till September to decide but right now It's looking like we'll get the fix and collet $7000 and pray it holds up.

The only new hardware added is an NOx sensor and an DEF sensor.  The rest of it is replacing the existing emissions components with the same thing.  IMO the original software fix was a bigger deal.

Define "holds up"?

It'll be warranted against any failures relating to the fix.  If you don't like it after it's fixed, you can still trade it in for about the same diminished value that it'd have at this point - you have nothing really to lose by taking a 'wait and see' approach.

Holds up from a reliability standpoint. Extra warranty is nice piece of mind I guess.

if the fix only involves a software flash, it's likely ok...i wouldn't trust anything that involves additional components...the engine wasn't designed to use them, so adding things it wasn't designed for is likely asking for trouble down the road.

There are no additional components aside from two sensors.

They are just replacing components to ensure they last the prescribed interval.

I'd love it if VW gave me a couple of new sensors/parts for free and a bag of money.

my parents was an older one, which i think required more, but i'm pretty sure the vehicles need something to do with DEF/UREA...i'm not sure they can pass without it...that's the whole issue...other companies had to use it to meet emissions, but somehow, VW was doing it without using the added cost and complexity of a DEF system...which of course we now know was BS...perhaps if it's just a couple of sensors, it might be ok, but i still don't see how two sensors are going to do much to reduce emissions, barring cutting the power in half or something blatantly awful...if all that VW needed was a couple of sensors, they would have simply done that from the beginning as the cost would have been minimal and they wouldn't need to cheat in the first place.
