That'd be a great idea IF his daughter was doing grad school in Mechanical Engineering... ;D Excellent vehicle for research.

I'll drive the Rogue to BC for her!
 ;)

alright...

the Crosstrek is my first pick (likely within budget)
not sure about Vancouver but out here Niagara / GTA - there's a few used ones available.
They're all coming off leases.

depending on the timing, I agree looking at the CX3 / upcoming Honda HRV(?) would be something to look at.

She has already suggested that.    (people  with daughters will understand  ;D )

XV Crosstrek? Forester?

Those would be my choices, although that's heavily due to my manual transmission preference.

I'd agree but I think it's unlikely to find a Forester in the age and mileage range at my price point.

As for the CrossTrek......Have they have been around long enough for there to be many on the used market?

Did a quick search on Trader.  Someone is getting rid of 2014 lease return Legacy's for under $22,000; and there are a couple of Foresters as well.  Would be worth a quick search in Vancouver.  No CrossTreks showed up with your criteria.

the ML might thrive in a different climate.  On the other hand it might be worse.

Just to update, the Rogue replacement has been found and it is.................................

Another Rogue!............   Red 2011 SL with 63K. She decided to save a few dollars and reduce her cost by going a year or so older than the original plan

That's not surprising.  I remember reading that previous Nissan Rogue owners are the most likely (out of other car manufacturers) to buy Rogues again.  Congrats.

Well, she always liked the Rogue and was impressed with the extras this one came with that her '08 lacked....leather... power seat...nav...blue tooth....trip computer....backup camera...sunroof....smart key.

The car was a Nissan Finance vehicle that went through the Montreal ADESA auction.  A few nicks and dings, needed tires but otherwise looks pretty sound.
