Xterra loved for toughness and capability, but used models should be checked by a mechanic before purchase.

Nissan have discontinued this last great body on frame winner. Anyway, it never had the overseas' success of Patrol. But leaving body on frame concept of Pathfinder simultaneously was another big mistake. The vacuum is taken from Toyota and others, at least here in North America.

The infamous radiator fiasco that Nissan decided to not address for many years and leave customers on the hook for very expansive repairs was not addressed before sometime during the 2010 MY so why recommend the 2009 and 2010MY?? To anyone interested do your research carefully. I would not consider one older than 2011.

Nissan extended the warranty allo the way to 2010MY models due to the class action law suit:

Both Pathfinders and XTerras are notorious for trashing the transmissions thanks to the engine coolant leaking into the trans.  Can be prevented only by installing a separate trans cooler and eliminating the trans fluid sharing the rad with the engine coolant.

Or go with a better aftermarket rad with integrated trans cooler.  I wouldn't want a truly separate trans cooler in cold winter climate.  The integrated trans cooler actually helps to warm up the trans quicker and regulate the temp better.

I would only consider one that has either been modified or had no evidence of cross contamination and the cost of modding be factored into the price. But with what people want for these things I'd just skip the whole problem and get a 4-Runner. Nissan is all over the map. Some of their stuff is built to an amazing standard and some of it is just crap.

Pretty much.  Aside from the GT-R, Z-cars and Infiniti division.
