I thought I would give a little update on my traumatic adventure with Ford Focus 2012 faulty manual automated transmission.
Let me specifiy I no longer have that horrible car. I bought a Fusion after I had a peculiar incident (that almost turned major) with the Focus.
I was stuck in traffic for nearly 3 hours (those who know Montreal know how horrible it can get ). So the environmental conditions were : heavy rain, extremely very heavy traffic, 5 to 10 km per hour for nearly 3 hours, and a steep slope. After 3 hours, without warning a got a message : Transmission is over heating: stop your car for 6 minutes - I though this ought to be a joke. (
) Than, instantly the car simply back down on the car behind me - It put itself on neutral right as I was trying to move forward and where the slope is the steepest (almost at the top) - I tried to change lane but it was very difficult with fast driving cars trying to cut traffic to get to the exit (where I was trying to go as well, but with a car that decided it would put itself to "neutral" every minute or so.)
Because I never had a car with an overheating transmission (my automatic transmissions on other cars I had in the past 30 years never ever overheated) I had no clue it would put itself to neutral - I came very close to a major accident (and I got seriously scared). I remained convinced that this car's transmission needs serious investigation - Even though I am no longer concerned, I filed a complain at Industry Canada, for whatever it is worth.
