Are you both talking about the hybrid? Because that article mentions the hybrid and I can believe 5.6L/100km from Toyota's hybrid system. From the standard V6 I'm not sure. I know it'll be good but that sounds amazing. Why bother with the Camry? This blows it out of the water.
NO, the thread is about the 2013 Avalon so were talking the standard V6 version. Although that 5.6 number is from the Hybrid and is just that; 5.6 then and there for the 30 minutes.
My wife's 2012 TCH XLE gets 6.3 now, down from 6.1 since it's got colder as the engine runs much more to heat the cabin. No way it AVERAGES 5.6. You can pull 4.6l out of it occasionally, but the average is always higher. Mike and Wings pal, Grant, stated that he got 6.5 out of that green 2012 TCH tester, but I strongly suspect that he was testing on severely under inflated tires.
The Avalon Hybrid is also rated .5 seconds slower on the 0-60 test because it's heavier. More insulation, more stuff. So if would only seem to logical to think that the V6 Avalon would get less mpg than the V6 Camry.
Sorry boys, I do sell these vehicles and the Camry V6 is 8.5l/100, which is what they are getting over at fuelly.com
The only thing that would reduce that 8.5 number is Direct Injection. Is the 2013 Avalon V6 DI? News to me.
Here's another source.
"...
What's more, as we toured through California's Napa region, we averaged nearly 40 mpg—matching its excellent 40-mpg Combined rating) in a 30-mile loop with the Hybrid, driving with traffic on highways and through a few small towns. Then heading back out,
driving like hooligans on a few isolated backroads for about 25 miles in Sport Mode, we still saw about 36 mpg..."
http://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1080148_2013-toyota-avalon-first-drive/page-2Fack, that's 6.5l/100km and still less than 8.5 you predict. Who should I believe? I don't know either of you so it's your word against his. Is he THAT motivated to lie about it? Maybe.
Don't want to raise any heat on this topic, and I do realize their driving conditions are pretty ideal at sea level and 22 degrees Celcius while yours are at what 1,000 feet above sea level in a colder climate(?) Other things may factor in, too.
Even if I call both of you liars and the truth is somewhere in-between, 7.5l/100km combined for a large sedan is still pretty facking good if short of phenominal.
Just saying
Happy Friday
EDIT: Just noticed you were talking about a
V6 Camry.
I am talking about a
Hybrid AvalonIf your wife's TCH gets 6.1, why only marginally heavier Avalon Hybrid should get much worse? 5.6 is pretty realistic in ideal conditions. I'd take 6.5.
