I guess the other big difference to a 4Runner is that on the LC, it will be a permanent 4WD system - at least if I am reading this correctly.

Look at it this way - it's not an EV. Toyota is killing its V8 and non-hybrid V6 engines.

Original Land Cruiser had a four-banger diesel, so it's in the spirit of the original  ;)

Oh, a freaking 4 or 6 cyl diesel I would be all over it. A stupid petrol powered one with all the turbos and crap, no thank you. Its a lot easier to delete all the enviro crap off a diesel to make it run for hundreds of thousands of kms vs a petrol unit.

I hope that it ends up being a decent motor since Toyota is putting it in, seemingly, everything.

Diesels are done, and no way you can "un-enviro" a modern engine anymore. It's not like we're still in age of air pumps anymore anyhow...

It's the same PT found in the Mexican  ;D Tacoma Limited.  Namely full time drive which is good, but with a center locking differential if needed.

It's gonna be great other than the $80K price tag and in the LC case very limited availability in lower trims.

Yeah I would look at that although wifey would like the GX. Does the 4 cylinder suck or is it ok?

The Turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four hybrid engine 326 HP, 465 LB-FT. It's from the Tacoma. Plenty of power

https://www.thedrive.com/news/2024-toyota-tacoma-trd-pro-vs-ranger-raptor-colorado-zr2-frontier-pro-4x

The Tacoma TRD Pro comes with a hybrid drivetrain, featuring a 2.4-liter turbo-four engine that delivers an impressive 465 pound-feet of torque at just 1,700 rpm, making it suitable for various tasks like crawling, towing, or improving fuel efficiency.

Power wasn't my concern, it was does it suck?   ;D   Numbers are one thing but how it drives is quite another. Another concern is will it last 300k kms with just oil changes. If no to the former and yes to the latter then it gets a check mark.

It doesn't have a locking front differential, so no, it's a softroader. Turbos normally last around 150,000 miles on average, about 240,000. It's a Toyota; this thing will run until the wheels fall off and the engine goes bang after a million clicks, even with abuse and no oil changes. I'm sure it's a Toyota.  :)

Love it. There will be a long wait for these, typical Toyota post-COVID.

Has crawl control in lieu of the front locker.

Did you have to mention that, now KTM will really be disappointed in our version of the Land Cruiser.

will this be the first world Diesel hybrid?   if so it took way too long.  I've always wonder how fuel economy would be with the 2 combined.  Torque galore!

Thats not nearly the same thing, brake biased diffs<an actual locking diff. Is it better than nothing, yeah, but its not close to an actual locker.

Nobody will rock crawl with this thing.  Maybe few Youtube stars, that's it.
