Why I Like NHRA Stock Eliminator
« on: June 18, 2022, 10:35:23 pm »
A few examples of why I love NHRA drag racing, especially Stock Eliminator.  June 17-19, they're racing in Bristol, TN.

First picture is John Fisher, of Wake Forrest, NC, and his 1980 Chrysler Cordoba, with a 360, 4 bbl for motivation.  He ran a best of 11.92 @ 108 mph.

Second, Bill Howell, of Aiken, SC, with his 1990 Dodge Caravan, powered by a 2.2L, 4-cyl, turbo.  14.83 @ 89 was his best run.

Third, for Chevy fans, McNeal Freeman, Atlanta, GA, 1987 Chevrolet Caprice, 262 V6.  These cars were such pooches from the factory, it's a minor miracle that he ran 15.00 @ 85 mph.

I bet all three of those guys had a blast even though they weren't hitting crazy numbers or top speeds.  I love your passion for this stuff Bubba.

Yep, this type of racing is way more interesting to me that some custom race chassis with a fiberglass body and a 7-figure race team behind it.

If I had the time and money, I'd be racing Stock or Super Stock.  I appreciate the effort that goes into making a car the best possible performer, within the rules.  You have to be constantly looking for improvement.

Article about one racer's attempt to set a national record in Stock Eliminator.  Rules are strict and that makes setting records difficult.

McNeal Freeman is racing at the NHRA Arizona Nationals this weekend and ran 14.43 seconds @ 90 mph to qualify #2 in Stock.  Looks like they've been doing a little work to the V6.  For an engine that made 130 hp from the factory, finding the hp to run 90 mph in the quarter is very impressive.
