...snip

...but then we're stuck with a one-car garage and a single extra spot on the driveway (blocking the car in the garage).  We both would be driving daily, though likely leaving and returning at different times.  My wife's on call all the time, so blocking in her car isn't an option, but leaving it to be snow covered also wastes time for her.  The worst part is that we then have no guest parking.  These developments have limited guest parking spots and cap them at 3 nights max (based on availability).

...so yes, parking is a serious concern for us.

...and isn't this a car forum?  Limited parking =  RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!
We have a single garage and it is small but we have a double width drive.   Soooooo  Mrs tpl gets the garage, as she has trouble wielding a snow brush with her limited mobility and balance, for her Fit.  I get to park in the snow or the sun with a neighbors enormous tree that drips sap  or on the other side under an ornamental crab apple that drips little red berries and bird :censor:.   But the drive is long enough for 2 to park without blocking the garage and of course we are not on call.
The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

I told my wife there was nothing left in Keswick that was a) detached and b) not falling apart for under $500k and she scoffed... Until a dilapidated semi-detached a few blocks over, with junk strewn about the yard, sold for over $420k within days of listing. Yikes.

Reminder: Keswick is 70 km from Toronto. Are we now at the point where young buyers will no longer be able to afford a home within commuting distance of the city?

I think we hit that high water mark a long time ago.

Yes.  Our office was right beside the 404 at Buttonville airport.    Even 11 years back we had well paid people living in Keswick as it was what they could afford.  Granted that the commute to Richmond hill was MUCH easier than downtown TO it could still be a pain in bad weather.

My office is also right next to Buttonville and while we largely chose Keswick for the lifestyle (we're both from Northern Ontario originally and like small towns), let's not kid ourselves... it was also affordable, at least relatively so. Ever since TREB shut down the TO Sold Report site I can't get selling prices, but I've seen my exact model of home on a nearby street listed for $180k more than we paid less than 2 years ago. We were diligent with our savings, so something under $450k was achievable with no help and a healthy down payment (> 20%). Now? Not so much. $600k and beyond is insane for a modest detached home in such a far-flung suburb.

I think I'd much prefer this one at $1.6M.  It's not far from me and KDS2K.

I'm liking this place, close to my kids schools, not too far from the ex (so the kids can bike back & forth) and in a good area... now to just come up with the cash!!

smartelectric has 1.5 cars.   ;D

I remember once watching some real estate show based in the U.K. and the previous owners had remodeled in a way that they had 1/2 a garage. It was suggested it'd be perfect for someone with a smart. Seriously! I loved that.
