BRZ was a second faster than the genesis at calabogie... just sayin...

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

Even on the prius tires?

The Genesis was a Premium, so it was running tires designed more for quiet operation than track use. An R-Spec would be a fairer fight.

Ah it makes sense then.  Like the Premium low geared Mustang convertible I recently had...

A K20A (or F20) drive train laid as far on its side would make this a mini F12 Berlinetta  8)

I am really liking this car.  I once owned a CRX SI and this must be way better and the CRX was already a lot of fun.  The only feature that may be a deal braker for me is the lack of sunroof option (to my knowledge).  I get a little claustrophobic without it.  I don't know how much that would compromise the structural rigidity of it, but I imagine not by much.  Also a turbo would be nice and I've read rumours of one coming soon enough.

a Canadian review ranked the FRS LAST (cousin of BRZ) behind Gen coupe and Miata on the track

I wonder if Mazda will have an answer to this car...beyond the MX5.

They do, the RX-8, but the crazy high fuel consumption of the rotary engine does not make sense in today's world. ..... if Mazda can repackage the RX-8 with the Mazdaspeed3 engine, that will be GREAT!!!!  ;D

I say bring back the RX7. The FD was a fastastic looking car while to me the RX8 never looked right, put the Mazdaspeed engine into a new age RX7 and then you would have something. The RX8 didnt sell well not only because it was thirsty, but they didnt get the looks right.
Lighten up Francis.....

Yea, I was thinking something more like that...maybe an RX7 or an RX5 with a $30k price point. Has to be RWD.

The rotary is a very nice engine, smooth and revs well. Living where I live, there are no real rotary experts, I even heard that the dealers werent really that well trained and equipped to deal with them, thats what really scared me off. An RX-7 sized car with a turbo 4 @ around $30K would be a boon to Mazda......or the could put into production that Miata coupe concept they showed way back when.

Ha clearly I did not -- Actually according to my lap timer I ran almost the EXACT same line in both cars.  Kind of scary....

And by the video you can see that they are nearly identical -- I am a robot...  What the heck did youtube do to my video, it wobbles LOL

But do I want to share said video already?  That's a little premature I think... how about this video?

How would you say the ride harshness compares to a base 3 series (no sport package)?
I (a lo of people) cannot buy a car exclusively for tracks... so it has to carry wife and kids without them being thrown around in the car too much

the base 3 series ride is more than acceptable

You aren't carrying many kids in this car, back seat is pretty much useless.

But the ride is acceptable IMO, its not race car firm at all.  It doesn't bounce because the chassis is so stiff it doesn't transfer too much to the butt in terms of harshness.

Wow, you guys are getting serious! Very professional and great looking video. Despite all the auto publications out there autos.ca offers a welcome perspective and I'm glad to see the scope expanding.

OK one nit - at 1:08 the grammar is a little off. Sorry, it's what i do for a living...other than that, well done!
