Used car prices coming down anytime soon?
« on: February 26, 2024, 09:22:52 pm »
i swear i've seen thread topic like this little while ago, but i can't find it now..

anyway, browsing autotrader and kijiji autos for random stuff as one does, thinking maybe i could get a small engined manual car that i can bomb around town with as a toy, in addition to convertible and motorcycle....  ( shoot i have many toys..)

looked at fiat abarth, and mini cooper.  not cooper s.  or JCW.  just cooper..

check out THIS gem of a deal.  https://www.kijijiautos.ca/cars/mini/cooper/used/#vip=30849768
2014 mini cooper base model, manual, vinyl chair, no LED headlight, no nav, 84k km

Price, you ask?  20k.   20,000$..  for 10 year old mini.
I'm pretty sure I test drove one very similar to this when it was was new!  and new one would have cost 25k all in out the door back in 2014....  with sunroof, maybe 26k?

https://www.kijijiautos.ca/cars/mini/cooper/used/#vip=29993245
or this one...

guess i'll just stick with what i got.

Alberta prices are nuts.

Our old 2017 Mini was recently for sale. About 100k on it. They wanted $17k. No LED lights but it had nav, sport seats, sunroof, heated windshield, etc. Quite nicely equipped for a base model.

We've been casually looking at them too. Tough to find one equipped the way we want (no LED lights is a dealbreaker, no heated windshield almost a deal breaker).

The market has definitely crashed and prices have come down. This particular car is overpriced and the seller is delusional.

haha, i think you need to send the memo to alberta dealers. every car that dealer's selling is supremely overpriced.

also, haven't been around a while, and the car list in your signature has gotten really really long now!!!

I agree. Could buy the same/similar here in BC for 10-13k (wholesale). I’ve always figured Minis would be a hard sell so I’ve never been tempted to buy one.

Depends on the Mini I guess. Desirable trim and options seem to sell pretty quickly.

I find Albertan sellers haggle a lot less. In real estate too. I didn't think twice about offering 10% below offering on my Kelowna townhouse (ended up buying at 6% below) in 2017 when the market was heating up but in 2018 with a flat Edmonton real estate market I was told that offering 2+% below would be an insult.  ???
