Thanks for digging it up.  :)

While $49000 is for the base 160 mile model and after 7500 credit, I predict with such a price drop in comparison to the Roadster, it will face a strong demand, esp. in CA. They should pull their *&$&^ together and bring it to the market sooner or else deal with Nissan's Leaf and a few Chinese companies, claiming to flood NA with affordable electrics.
Any word on Tesla still planning on using laptop cells for the S or maybe something larger this time?

Poor guy. It looks like his last bit for NYT.
Besides all this being both embarrassing and entertaining, I'm impressed at how easily Tesla could diagnose any electronic gremlin with such technology.

I know someone that bought one of these.  He says he gets over 300km on the coldest day.  Not bad.

He lives far up in the country side.  He lives in Calabogie and drives down to Ottawa, a long commute, says it's not an issue.

This technology exists in many cars.  The ECU stores plenty of data these days.

More like a snap shot I guess, 10 sec maybe... In this case they logged the entire trip and I'm sure there are many more parameters not mentioned in the article.

No shocker here. New Rav4 electric uses Tesla technology. Toyota not only sold the Nummi plant to Tesla for a bargain but also assisted in vehicle production processes.

TMC has agreed to purchase $50 million of Tesla’s common stock.

Don't think there are any in Canada yet are there?

Tesla's wisely starting in California where the market is probably most receptive. They have some of the worst geography for trapping in smog so they take the EV and emissions reduction stuff far more seriously than anyone else. So... their supercharging stations are all west coast right now. Takes time to develop the infrastructure but it seems to be coming along.

Curious to see how the car will end up performing in some of the conditions that are harsher to batteries like the Canadian winter. The tech to condition them is coming along mind you and clearly the Tesla S's range is starting to edge into conventional ICE range. It's not there yet... but it's a huge improvement from 5 years ago. Even 2 years ago.

I've seen two of them in Oakville over the past couple of months.

I saw one in TO with Ontario plates. I think Tesla has a shop by YYZ.
A bit too early for EVs to fit for taxi duty. Charging takes too long even on a supercharger.
Prius/Camry Hybrid to save on gas and parts is likely the best bet.

Saw one last night in Quebec City as I merged onto the highway. I accelerated a bit to have a closer look and did the Tesla! Wow, this thing can go. Turned out we were both heading to Costco so I parked next to it and spoke to the owner. The only one in Quebec City probably. Really impressive car, I felt like in "Return to the future" movie looking at the DeLorean in the 50's. I was really impressed, like looking at the car from the future. Having $80K laying around, I would know what to do.

Quebec is a great place for an electric car; our gas must be the highest price in NA and our electricity is the cheapest.

Interesting. You'll probably need a home charger, 240V. Prolly a couple of thousand.
Are they leasing the model S?
Never having to visit a gas station would be a feature worth putting in the equation for me.

i'm going to look up their plan to introduce super charging stations in ontario.   these are being built in the states right now and they are free of charge.  it's kind of scary to add up the amount of money we spend on gas.   beyond 4 years it looks like advantage tesla.   push it further and who knows.   replacement of the full series of batteries could cost 6-10k bucks.

Free coz they're out of charge?  ;)
Somewhere in the manual it will say that constant use of superchargers is not recommended as it will degrade the battery pack. At least it's the case with Leaf.
However having superchargers along major highways will enable Teslas to go on weekend trips and other long distance plans, and this was up until now one of the major limiting factors for EVs.

One of my clients has a Model S and she graciously let me drive it.

It is, hands down, the most amazing ride I have ever had. The torque is RIGHT NOW and relentless. It is exotic car fast and handles very well.

As for cost, people who buy this car don't care. My client is a very wealthy Chinese lady; she can buy anything she wants for cash. In fact, she considered the $100k price cheap, compared to a 7 series BMW or S Class MB.

So why did she buy it? Simple: It's Chic. It's cool. And they are popping up all over the West Side of Vancouver because of it.
I'd never join a group that would have me as a member.
