So what? Who cares? People want to get behind the team when they win, so be it. Same in every city with every team. I'm a diehard Jay fan and welcome the band wagon fans. I know they'll leave once the team loses again in years to come but what's it matter to me or anyone else?

It's definitely not the same in every city.  Some teams sell-out (or close) year in, year out regardless of how the team is doing...they are constantly Top 10 for attendance.  Those are hardcore fans.

That's true, but it's also hard to equate sales to fans. The leafs sell out every game (and are :censor:). But most people at those games aren't real fans.

Yankees also have a lot of corporate season ticket holders. Yet even that franchise is down roughly a million people a year in attendance (20%) compared to their winning years in the mid-late 2000s.

Look how much the Tiger's attendance went up once they started winning a lot over the past 10 years. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teams/detatte.shtml

Comerica park was the big reason.  Old Tiger stadium...despite the how I love old stadiums....just wasn't that fun to watch a game.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Looking at that airline some more, beside the two LA teams and the gazillion people who live there, it appears San Fran and STL have the most devoted fan base.

Yes, Tiger Stadium was not great. But still, Comerica 2001-2005 wasn't pulling in much more a fan base. But then a wild card and AL pennant in 2006 and look at the attendance explode in 2007. Everyone loves a winner! ;)

They finished dead last last year.  Still Top 10...in either avg. attendance or pct. of sell out.   ;)

My parents went to Cleveland for the entire Jays 3 game series. At least half the stadium there was Jays fans as well. And that was a first place teams' stadium. Say/hate as you will on the Jays, but they sure do have a huge fan base.

Yes indeed...they sure have a huge bandwagon fan base.

Agreed.

I've always been a Jays fan myself.  But I'll also admit that I've been watching a LOT more games since last season since they've been playing some good ball.  I've probably watched about 95% of their games this year, whereas a few years ago, it was probably more like 25%.  Not sure if that makes me a band wagon fan, but really don't care if it does either.  Hopefully they play better down the stretch over the next week and a half and at least clinch a wildcard spot.

Oh please, not the "Season Ticket" rebuttal.  :P

You've been trash talking the Jays and Jays Fans in this thread so what do you expect?  ;D

If there is a baseball game on Sportsnet, TSN, WGN, etc. I will watch it.  I'm watching Boston/Baltimore right now.  I'm a baseball watcher.  You SIR are not.  You are a baseball TALKER!

LOL.....so you're a slave to the TV to watch baseball?  That's softcore for an alleged "watcher".  Sounds more like a casual fan to me.   ;D  If you really like baseball (like me), you'd have an MLB.TV subscription so you can watch any game, any time, anywhere.  Step it up a bit, would ya?   :stick:   ;D

I'm watching Boston too.  Looks like Tigers may slot into the 2nd WC spot shortly.

Oh I'm sure there are.  But kinda hard for you given locale.   ;D

Makes for a long ride after the game!

How about  Season Tickets: The ultimate way for a fan to show love for his team.

Better?   ;)

^ Much better.   ;D

I would LOVE to go see a Jays game, unfortunately for me it would be well over $1000 for me to go see a game..........and that's just for myself.  Sadly, I've only seen one MLB game, and it was the Expos.  :(

I like to chirp and poke fun and have banter at opposing teams...like most fans do.  It's part of being a fan.

But you guys should see how facking bonkers US NCAA Football is.  It's facking INSANE.  Not sure if anyone's been to a college game before?

If we're talking about the short stop playing between 1st and 2nd, yeah.

Yup. 2nd baseman shouldn't be allowed past the imaginary center line and neither should the shortstop. I also think the 2nd base slide rule needs to be tweaked in the off-season. I'm a big fan of the countdown clock added this year for manager visits to the mound. They need to add one for teams debating if they want to challenge a play or not.
