Toyota has used ADD for a long time. Perhaps defective part from low bid supplier? The incident where it broke was nothing in terms of off road strain.
ADDs are of the suck, Jeep stopped using them in the YJ and went back to the for the new Wrangler. Horrible piece of equipment, give me manual locking hubs or give me death!!
Always a danger if you were a passenger. Crawling out on the hood and searching under some murky water for the damn hub because what forward thinking person would lock them before it got nasty?
That was my old rule if out alone. Explore around in 2WD and if you stick it, use 4WD to get back out.
