That's awesome, I wanted one of these before.

I guess this is no surprise to anyone but my Sienna's onboard fuel consumption meter is about 20% optimistic.

I would guess that almost all on-board fuel consumption meters are optimistic.  The car manufacturers like it that way.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.

The one my car car is almost exactly as my manual calculation. The computer says 5.8 and manual calculation is 6.0.

I've checked mine against a bunch of fillups. There were small differences, but they balanced out so close to zero that I just go by the readout. Of course it has to be calculated from US mpg because of the incredible stupidity that the readout is in US mpg, and the metric number truncates to the next lower full number. How can they engineer software to run a hybrid so well but screw up a simple mileage display? 6.5 L/100km = 35.8mpg US.

My real-world fuel consumption with my TT sucks.  I average ~8.5 l/100 km @120 km/h.  Maybe 9.8 l/100 km in mixed driving.  My Mk 1 TT with the 1.8T would average 7.3 / 8.5 in similar driving.  Like that V6, and I went into buying this TT with both eyes open but wow.

The on-board fuel consumption on my 2015 F250 diesel was wonky.  It showed 15 l/100km empty and pulling our 8000 pound 5 wheel (on the same stretch of freeway).  :P

Fancy. If I waited for the 2013 model year, I could've got the fuel consumption meter and the Touring package.

I would guess that almost all on-board fuel consumption meters are optimistic.  The car manufacturers like it that way.

Yea. It's my first time with a built in fuel consumption meter. At least the distance to empty is accurate. I might grab another UltraGauge for my Sienna.

If you try to use the iPhone emojis instead of using bbcode that's what you get.

It's possible that once you are up to speed and on a level road you'd get the same mileage with and without the trailer. The length of the trailer may make the conbination as streamlined an object as the truck by itself. Same as how some vehicles get better mileage with a canoe on the roof.

Last trip pulling our 8000 lb trailer the Tundra was at 26l/100km over 220 km. That's probably about average. I've seen as low as 22 pulling the same trailer and as high as 32 with a 60k head wind. First trip towing the boat was 18.

Driving the new X5 home yesterday I averaged 10.3l/100km with the cruise set around 122-125.

And what would the ML average on that same trip?

Low/mid 9's.   I could get it down to mid 8's but you had to cut you speed down to 100 or so.

The GMC 2500 is comparable to that when pulling the horse trailer (about the same weight).  Best is low 20s, but usually around 25 - 28 L/100 km (and my wife won't drive much faster than 100 kph with the trailer).  Into a wind - easily into the 30s.

Pulling the 1600 lb tent trailer on the highway?  Same crappy 15 - 17 L / 100 km as it gets when not towing!

I'd like to see what mileage ppl are getting when towing with the 6.2L GM half-tonnes - I'd assume it's marginally better than the 6.0L, but probably not by much.  I'm sure the 5.7L in the Titan XD and 3.5EB aren't any better either when towing those heavy loads.

OTOH, the Forester got 7.8L/100km on a round trip to Vancouver.  I'm pretty happy with that, considering the average speed on the flat stuff was 110+ kph, and mountains and all...

Actually, the ML was only ever on a flatbed once and that was at 3 weeks old due to a broken serpentine belt.
