I recently dusted off an old N64 to introduce my son (4 years old) to video games, figured Mario Kart 64 was my own introduction, and it's simple/easy enough to play. After about a week of playing an hour a night he's getting the hang of it. It wouldn't run on our newer TV in the basement, which didn't have the red/yellow/white RCA inputs, so I had to run it on the living room TV which is older. Otherwise, it still works great and is just as fun as ever....

We have a PS4 (and a 3) and Xbox 360 that haven't been touched in years - too complicated for the little guy at this age I think.

Mrs.Firm has a Switch, which she plays quite a bit, I've never touched it....controller setup seams really weird to me.

The upcoming Grand Theft Auto is about the only game I have any interest in at this point, so when it comes out I'll invest in a PS5 just for it.

Yeah I think you can buy adapters for those cables to be run through HDMI so you can play the old games on new TV's.

I haven't played much lately, but I hope to buy the new Gran Turismo for my PS4 this holidays and get some racing in.  I always enjoy those games.

F-Zero was by far my favourite SNES game.  My dad really enjoyed it too, we'd spend a half hour after dinner most nights during the winter taking turns doing time trials.  Trying to get close to the lap times published in Nintendo Power at the time!

We dug out our old XBOX 360 and Wii from the basement for the kids this weekend.  They had a blast playing Mariocart on the Wii, we don't have a lot of age appropriate games for the XBOX yet but my daughter did like Tetris and Bejeweled.

Thought a lot about the Nintendo systems over the weekend, and took advantage of the Shoppers Drug Mart mega points redemption today.  Redeemed $200 worth of points for $300 off, twice, to get two Switch Lites plus carry cases.  Thought that was pretty good.

Looks like it's free to download on the Switch.  Nice!

Finally!!

It's only a 1 player game, but we take turns and those that aren't playing cheer (and heckle) the player on.

It's a fun obstacle course game. This game is hard not to put a smile on your face with the silly little costumes you wear and collect.

Not yet, kids are getting Switch Lites for Christmas.  Haven’t played many video games lately, but we’ve been working away at New Super Mario on the Wii.  Daughter is too busy playing chess with me most evenings (no complaints from me on that one).

Ya!

IQ and I play backgammon a lot!

Still something to be said for board games.

Playing this new GT 7 game on PS4 is making me want to buy a sports car.  Such a great game so far.

Nice, I’m having a harder and harder time justifying upgrading from my PS4.  I just don’t play as much as I used to and have a few games I haven’t even started yet.

I can understand your hesitation with the newer consoles for a 4-year-old. They can be quite complex, and it's essential to start with something simpler. And yes, the Switch controller setup can be a bit unusual at first, but once you get used to it, it opens up a world of fun games.

I guarantee you a 4 year old will master a Switch controller in no time at all....

I'm into GTA 5 again, love this game
The best GTA in my view will always be Vice City.  I just can't really get into any of the one's after that one.
