Does the Elantra come with high speed autobraking, in a manual transmission model, because I think that system in the Golf is in its second generation?  I don't actually think you can get autobraking in a manual Elantra, at all.

Quoting myself, this way lies madness.  But per hyundai canada website, cannot get these safety functions in a manual 2018 Elantra GT:

+Forward Collision Warning +Autonomous Emergency Braking+ Adaptive Cruise Control +Lane Departure Warning System
+Lane Keep Assist System + Attention Assist

That rules it out for me.  Just to be clear, I want the features for a student driver in the house.

The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT is not a hatchback version of the Hyundai Elantra. Well, it is, but in nameplate and drivetrain alone. Otherwise, the Elantra and Elantra GT are utterly unrelated. They are built on different platforms, via different programs. They have different heights, length, tracks and wheelbases.

Damn.  How did I not know this?  ??? Good review.  Very appealing offering here.

if you do a lot of city driving, it can help save a bit of fuel...the feature works pretty unobtrusively in the Equinox we tested, and GM says it can save about 1.5% on fuel economy for the average driver.

No automatic start-stop is a good thing.  I have his device in my X1 and I hate it.   It's turned it off and thankfully, it doesn't default to the 'on' position every time I restart the vehicle.

Why does a car need electric folding mirrors?  I can see it on a vehicle with big mirrors, like at truck, but I can't see the need for electric folding mirrors on a car.

I am suspecting some of you guys don't drive in urban areas and/or do street parking......I've seen mirrors get knocked off and it's nice even for car parks where cars are densely packed together and there's not a lot of space for people to walk.

Auto start-stop is good for reducing consumption and emissions; I do it manually on my cars when conditions are right (a habit since ca. 2008 or so).

The way people race from red light to the next red light, I doubt start/stop would help them at all. They would be better off driving normal and they would save fuel plus wear on their brakes at the same time.

Does any car in this price range even have electric folding windows mirrors?

Yeah...nice vehicle and it sounds like the turbo IRS version goes well. Like the first comment; a smaller wagon type...they are all hatches; unless there is one somewhere with a swing out rear door. I would take the non turbo though...with the more modern and less complicated light weight beam rear suspension...not going racing ever and this set-up and handling is just fine for most ordinaire shoppers for FWD. Pity there is no drum brake rear with simple hand brake, to go with this config. Would be nice with the smaller wheels and more sidewall rubber for a more comfortable ride. (article not withstanding) They still don't seem to agree that horizontal rear folded hard seat backs are to be preferred to inclined ones even with a small step produced by a little higher seat back hinge...less cushion squashing!!...which is what stops horrizontal-ness.

torsion beam suspension is, ok...i'd definitely prefer an IRS set up though...and i don't race cars, it just handles rough spots on the road better.

Will admit that I'm shocked that a 5 year old Rio5 has electric folding mirrors. Glad I didn't bet on that one as I would have lost big time.

our Sorento has it as well, but it's a different class ($36k CUV)...my Rio5 was $21,500.

My Rondo (2015) has the power folding mirrors too. It is generally indicative of cars designed for the European market.

In Europe, streets and sidewalks can be very narrow and folding mirrors are a must if you want to avoid damage.
